"A New Outlook"
Gotham City isn't quite the place to call home, but if you grew up there and never lived anywhere else, what else can you say? I have to say though 16 years here isn't too bad, my family wasn't poor but we weren't rich either, we were a standard family. My birthday was coming up and I'd finally be turning 17, which was great because being 16 is nice but once you are a teenager it's like every year gets better. I think the best part about Gotham was the fact that theres a perfect balance of good and evil that brews through this city like veins.
I had two siblings, my younger sister Samantha or "Sammy", she can be sweet, when she wants too. Then there was my "tween" sister Katie, who was really shy and mostly kept to herself unless she was talking to my dad, he was the only person she would open up to. Now I love my name, I mean most people wish they could change there name, but not me, Lilyian Amber Stacy, usually just "Lily" though. Unfortuantly I don't have a cool backstory, nothing crazy, just a mom, dad, and two sisters, it was all pretty basic until one late afternoon.
It actually was just 3 months ago when a perfect paradise turned into a chaotic storm. I was sitting in our big apartment, when I glanced at the clock,
"where's Sammy and Katie?! They should have been home by now!" I told myself nervously.
I knew that sometimes those girls would be off with friends or maybe going to the store but it always worries me when they don't come home after school without leaving a message. I was tempted to call my mother but I know she was busy at work and my dad was too far across town to get here in time, so it was all on me. Then for a single moment everything was quiet, it had almost seemed like someone had taken all the outside noises and muted them. During this moment I could almost hear the air blow through the apartment gently. This was the one quiet moment before the storm would come crashing and cripple my sanity.
A blood curling scream came from outside, I quickly ran towards the window to see the most terrifying moment that would forever change me. A moment I wish I could un-see to make myself feel better. My sisters were in an alleyway, cornered, with three large men standing around them. Each man was yelling at them asking them for money and valuables but the girls were just screaming and crying trying to make words slip from there tongues but they are speechless. For a moment I was stunned and didn't know what to do and without thinking I sprinted downstairs as fast as I could and I could feel my heart beating faster and faster and for a split second everything went quiet again and that's when a single gunshot went off. It filled my eardrums with a loud bang and a soft ringing that percied my brain. I didn't stop running but my eyes filled with tears, I knew that stepping out of the door to the alley would show me a horrific and twisted nightmare of death.
When I crashed through the doors to the outside I saw Katie and Sammy, backpacks gone, and the three men had left. I knew then Sammy was dead, even though I didn't want to accept it, I looked at her lifeless body and let my tears fall upon her. A puddle of blood soaked her shirt and I could feel the blood rubbing off of my fingers. Katie was bruised badly and at that point tears went streaming down Katie's face too, thats when a crash of reality hit me. I lived in Gotham City, a place with the highest crime rate, high pollution and a hero that can't be everywhere at once. This rotten and twisted city deserved to burn but not with me in it.
