"It's so quiet here."
"Aa."
"Don't you think?"
"Aa."
He pouted. "Say something."
Silence.
"Grouch. I have to leave today, you know."
"Aa." The demon made no other response, no sign of movement.
He just stared at the sky. Again, the man next to him pouted. After nine years, he had become very demanding when it came to affection and attention. When the demon made it quite clear that he had no intention of speaking, the human stood, and brushed off his robes.
"I'm leaving."
He had taken exactly three steps when the demon pounced. "Not until I say so."
