Too Cold for Angels to Fly
I do not own Supernatural in any way.
Kinda inspired by "The A-Team" by Ed Sheeran
"Sam! Dean! It's so wonderful to see you again!" Ella said hugging Dean, "I thought you guys weren't coming!"
"And miss your cooking?" Dean said, "Wouldn't miss it for the world".
Ella pulled back and slapped him on the shoulder.
Sam leaned down and hugged her. "Hey Ella. I hope you don't mind, but we brought a friend with us".
"The more the merrier!"
A man with dark hair and blue eyes stepped forward.
"Ella, this is Castiel", Sam introduced.
Ella gasped. "This is Cass? As in the angel Cass? Oh my god! Sorry. It's such an honor to meet you! The boys have told me so much".
Castiel was a little lost for words. This girl was incredibly happy, but perhaps it was the holiday making her feel that way. "Ummm, are you their sister?" he asked her.
Ella giggled. "No, these two saved me and my sister a few years back. Since then, I've been inviting them to Christmas dinner every year. I should get back to cooking. Do you guys want a beer?"
"You know it", Dean told her.
Ella disappeared into the kitchen as the boys sat down on the couch. She came back with three beers. "Take your coat off Cass, stay for a while", she said, handing him his beer. She flitted back into the kitchen.
"She's very…"
"Peppy?" Sam said, "Yeah, she's always been that way".
"Although after the attack, she was very withdrawn and scared", Dean said.
"Can I ask what happened?" Castiel asked.
"I found my parents dead with their throats torn out", Ella said, appearing in the doorway, "A vampire killed them. Sam and Dean hunted him down and killed the son of a bitch. But enough of depressing talk, dinner's ready".
Castiel followed the boys into the dining room and saw the table covered in food. It was his first Christmas as a human, so he was a little overwhelmed.
"Well sit down", Ella told him.
Castiel took a seat next to Sam.
"I'm not going to ask you to say grace or anything, so you guys can dig in", Ella told them.
Castiel started off with a little of everything, while Ella, Sam, and Dean loaded down their plates.
"Is that all you want?" Ella asked him.
"I've never had this kind of food before".
"You'll like it", Sam told him.
"Yeah, Ella's the best cook this side of the Mississippi", Dean said.
Ella blushed and said, "I don't know about that".
After dinner, they sat in the living room and talked.
"Well, we should get going", Sam said, standing up.
"What? No", Ella said.
"We'll be back soon enough", Dean told her.
Ella pouted and said, "Okay. I just miss you guys".
Dean hugged her.
Sam walked over and hugged her as well.
Castiel felt sort of awkward, so he just looked out the window at the snow falling down.
It had been nice when they arrived, but the temperature had dropped steadily.
Castiel was beginning to wonder how humans stayed warm in this kind of weather.
It looked like the area was going to get a white Christmas this year.
"Cass?" Sam said.
Castiel turned to Ella and said, "Thank you for welcoming me to your dinner. I enjoyed it very much".
"Thank you", she said.
Castiel put his coat on and got ready to leave with Sam and Dean.
"Wait!" Ella said. She ran to the hall closet and pulled out a scarf. She walked up to Castiel and tied the scarf around his neck. "You'll catch your death out there. It's much too cold for an angel like you to fly", she told him.
Castiel furrowed his brows. "But I'm not an angel any longer".
Ella blushed. She fiddled with the scarf around his neck, not being able to meet his eyes as she said, "Well I don't know about that. You've saved my boys on countless occasions. I don't know what I would do without them. So you're an angel to me". She finally looked at up him and Castiel could see her eyes were misty, like she was holding back tears.
"It's an honor to hear you say that. Thank you Miss Ella".
