Aisle Seats

The front row was a dangerous place to sit.

Not that the aisle seats of the first few rows offered any more protection, but Tim was certain Dick had taken that into consideration when purchasing the seats.

"Come on, Tim," Dick had said. "We haven't done anything in forever." And so Tim had ended up here, in a theater, watching his brother ham it up onstage. Dick's idea of a 'guy's night out' was seeing Cirque Dreams, the traveling Cirque de Soleil show in Gotham for the week.

One jungle clown jumped into the other's arms, then both turned to Dick and another girl, suggesting that they mimic the action. Tim suspected the girl was a plant – she refused to play along, and he had yet to meet a girl who refused to get that close to his brother.

Oh, and Dick had played the clowns to get onstage. First, there was the choice of seats. Then when they were scouring the crowd for a 'volunteer', he had developed look of intrigue and trepidation that made him a magnet for the jungle boy on his side. Tim wouldn't be surprised if Dick had figured out ahead of time where the plant - who was still protesting – was sitting so he would be on the opposite side of the theater.

The clowns led the pair in a series of whoops and motions. Dick and plant-girl were following along when the clowns broke out their trump card. The pair back flipped in unison, landed, and looked expectantly at their volunteers. Dick continued to play the part, shaking his head at the clowns.

After some encouragement from the crowd, the clowns restarted their flip prep.

Whoop

One arm up.

Whoop

Second arm raised.

Whoop

Knees bent.

Tim noticed only because he was watching for it, but Dick's hesitation vanished into a smirk as he bent his knees, pushed off, and did a double back flip. The audience went wild while the clowns stood shocked onstage before remembering their characters. One retrieved a tee shirt from behind a rock with the words "Cheer for Me" on the front to give to Dick.

Dick took a deep bow before returning to his seat while the clowns began to harass the girl for a kiss.

"It was nice of you to stop at two," Tim whispered as Dick got resettled in his seat.

"Couldn't be too hard on the poor guys. Plus, I hadn't gotten my shirt yet."

"You do know everyone is going to think the show had two plants, right?"

"Nah, someone here had to recognize me. It's not like we haven't been the papers enough lately."

"Fine, then tomorrow's papers will feature a photo of 'The Wayne Heir' doing a flip for a cheap shirt."

"Nope, 'no photography allowed' bro. It would violate Cirque's copyright. And I plan on wearing this shirt tomorrow."

"Because that won't confirm anything."

"Let'em talk. Now shhh. I came to watch."

"You came to perform."

"Same difference."
