SUMMARY: Lois has some time to think after Superman recovers.
A/N: This was written for one of my beta's birthday, and my Superhero Partner in Crime. She's the only reason I have ever written Clois Fics, so I thought it would be good to write one for her birthday.
REVIEWS: Reviews are the way I know if people are enjoying the work or not. So, if you leave one, THANKS! And if not, I hope you found at least a little something to brighten your day, and thanks for taking the time to read.
Every day it grew more difficult to deny. It would not be long before Richard began to suspect. He was always insecure about their relationship whenever it came to him. Finding out the truth would probably signal the end.
Lois was trying to decide if that was really such a bad thing. Her anger was still very real, but it was tempered by the reality of his mortality. His leaving without saying goodbye was one thing, but knowing a world without him at all was simply unbearable to her now.
To say she was torn was the understatement of century. Between the man that she loved and the man she loves. She did love Richard, even though something kept her from committing to him fully, there was love for him. He was a good man, and a wonderfully patient father and partner, but the truth was holding her back. And the truth was getting harder and harder to hide.
She stared at the computer screen, the words refusing to come to the surface. Her work was suffering from the turmoil raging through her mind, and it was becoming very obvious to everyone that she was struggling with something big.
Her eyes drifted to the broken frame holding the picture of her little family. Seeing the bright eyes of her son captivated Lois. Her eyes would not leave the image as she thought about the crash course her life seemed to be taking.
Running her finger along the outline of his moppish hair she was lost in thought when a familiar voice spoke from behind her. "He has your smile."
Lois spun around at the sound of Clark's voice and instantly made him nervous with the glare she shot at him. "Um, ya know…I mean, when you smile…that is." He shuffled anxiously as she continued to her silent stare. "Right, so, um… Sorry."
Suddenly remembering her infrequently used manners, Lois took in a deep breath as she closed her eyes. "Sorry, Clark… You just-… I'm just worried about what all of this stuff has done to him."
Clark gave her one of those innocent smiles of his and chuckled. "Oh, if he's anything like his Mom, he'll be looking for more." He turned away offered one last comment before picking up his jacket to leave. "Probably thought the whole thing was cool."
That was all Lois needed to hear. She let loose with a full laugh with Clark's final analysis. She laughed because he was right. Two minutes after getting home, Jason wanted to know when he could go out working with her again. The truth was… Jason was very much like his mother.
The only thing left to hope for was that he was also just like his father.
