my fingers cramp when they try to write of you

my imagination

falters

when i try to picture you

because reality is always

somehow

better than anything a misbehaving mind can see.

i see you everywhere

sprawled on the floor with your violin held

in your curling, possessive fingers

and i realize that if words were weapons

and you were a war

i would lose

(i want to learn the world's languages, all of them

from russian to inuit to the secret language of bees

and the squat grammar of elegant furniture

so that i can love you in them

whisper te quiero in the velvet dark we'll never have

tell you about toska and l'appel du vide

write you poetry in any tongue you desire

saudade, yuputka, mamihlapinatapei, ya'aburnee

tell you the stories spiders weave with their webs

translate the warnings of the oceans before the great wave

and when you lay down your violin at last

i will soothe you, cafuné,

i will sing you the songs of all the world and its lovers.)

yuputka - Ulwa, n. the phantom sensation of something crawling on one's skin.

mamihlapinatapei - Yagan, n. the wordless, yet meaningful look between two people who wish to initiate something but are both reluctant to start.

ya'aburnee - Arabic, declaration of the wish to die before another person because of how difficult it would be to live without them.

cafuné - Brazilian, Portuguese, n. the act of tenderly running one's fingers through someone's hair.

In the face of all the fandom has been going through this past week, this is all I could respond with. (Also possibly a fic with some Skype shenanigans which is in the works? I don't even know. I have homework over the holidays. Who has homework over the holidays? Really?)

All definitions for foreign words (save te quiero) come from the awesome awesome Twenty Words John Watson Needed Without Knowing Them by StarsHideYourFires over at archiveofourown. Please, please, tell me what you think.
