Chapter 1
Jed and Abbey held hands as the doctor told them the diagnosis. "Jed, you have multiple sclerosis. The good news is that it's relapsing remitting, which means you'll have occasional attacks, but you should experience a total return to all your faculties afterward." Jed's hand went limp in Abbey's hold.
The doctor paused, putting down on the counter the scan of Jed's brain. "There are treatment options, the best one for your case being betaseron." He looked at the horror on Jed and Abbey's faces, and said, "Would you like a few minutes to process this alone before I continue?"
Abbey nodded meekly. She and Jed sat in silence for a moment after the doctor shut the door. She wanted to hold him, but she was far too stunned to move.
