Talking
Thinking
I just felt like writing a quick little Xenoblade Chronicles drabble. I'm not really ready to begin writing a proper story yet. It is Valentine's Day or something after all.
Afternoon Reflections
Life hadn't exactly been kind to Melia lately. Her brother, and practically her entire race had been annihilated in the events of the last few days, and only now was her world finally starting to make sense again. Just one week ago her and her friends had finally stopped Zanza, and Shulk had used the power of the his Monado to preserve their world.
Shulk.
The named filled her heart with an odd mixture of happiness and pain. To describe her exact feelings for the man wasn't something she could exactly put into words. He amazed and frustrated her at the same time. The frustration she felt with him wasn't necessarily his fault though. It was his unwavering love for Fiora. Shulk would never, ever see anyone else with those wonderful eyes that seemed filled to the brim with his never-ending kindness and courage. As much as it pains her too admit it though, they're perfect for each other. There was no chance short of a miracle for Shulk to ever fall in love with her.
These were the thoughts that had Melia sitting on the hill above Shulk's hometown crying her heart out. The bench she was sitting on was creaking in unison with her shudders.
"Melia?"
The voice of the very man who had filled her thoughts for the last few hours brought her back to reality.
"Y-yes Shulk?" Melia couldn't even keep her voice from shaking. It took all of her restraint to resist jumping into his arms and pouring out here feeling. That wouldn't have been fair to Fiora to do however.
"Are you doing all right?" Shulk came up to her and sat down on the bench next to Melia, "I could hear you crying from all the way down the hill."
Melia sniffed, her heart lifting just slightly from his concern, "Yes Shulk. I'm doing fine. It's nothing you should worry about."
"Are you sure?" Shulk leaned down closer to Melia's face with concern filling his voice, "You don't look fine at all."
A crimson blush crept up Melia's cheeks at his proximity, "R-really Shulk I'm fine. So please, stop asking."
"Well all right," Shulk stretched out into a relaxed position and put his arms behind his head, "But I'm going to keep you company anyways."
"Stupid Shulk," Melia muttered under her breath and looked down at the ground, "You wouldn't notice anyone's feelings unless they hit you with them like a truck."
The two sat there for quite a long time lost in their own thoughts. Finally, Melia was broken out of her own thoughts by the sound of Shulk softly snoring and his head resting on her shoulder.
"Poor Shulk..." Melia softly stroked his hair, "He's probably been up for days trying to help rebuild. As petty as it is, I wish moments like this could last forever."
"Mhmff Melia," Shulk muttered in his sleep, causing the aforementioned girl to jump slightly, "Don't leave..."
Melia immediately blushed the brightest red she probably ever had in here entire life. Just what was Shulk dreaming about!?
"Silly boy." Melia closed her eyes and rested her head on Shulk's, "You belong with Fiora, and I don't want to come in between the two of you, as hard as it is to resist."
Melia fell asleep that day with a small flower of hope blossoming in her chest. Maybe just maybe Shulk would someday return the same feelings she secretly harbored. The day that happened would probably be the most wonderful day of her life.
The most awkward part of this story was trying to write from a female point of view. I probably botched it, but I need the practice.
