Sweet Favours

Sweet talking managed to fool the both of them.

It was a stupid thing, in the end. She'd hated her friend for getting the first chances, the better ones. She'd hated her for how perfect she suddenly seemed. How far away.

She'd listened to her first meeting with him and figured she could have her damn prince and her career and she'd just drag herself through, like she'd been doing. Looking for a place where it didn't exist. "Too short." "Not pretty enough." "Perfectly innocent."

And what the hell was wrong with being innocent? She wasn't going to sell herself like that – but she didn't admit to herself that the offer had sounded so very tempting. That she could have had a career, even if it meant modelling in skimpy tops and without any underwear until that wasn't enough anymore and they'd add, or take away, something more.

When she'd thrown it away and ran, she'd felt even more bitter. Until she'd realised – or someone had told her. She couldn't remember.

Honey; sweet little honey words leading her friend into a worse world – and she didn't even have failure protecting her.

To break that song of disgustingly deceptive sweetness or not; that was her choice.

She chose to add something: shattering her bitterness like the vase she smashed on the sweet-talker's head.

"The only way…" No, it was never the only way.
