Okay, this is the first time ever that I've written a fanfiction. (I don't own glee.)
It takes place two weeks before Regionals in season 1.
Finn had made a run to the grocery store for his mum and now he was late for glee rehearsal. Hopefully nobody's gonna be pissed at him now. They got a special rehearsal today, on a Saturday, because of Regionals in two weeks. So nobody would be at the school except for them and maybe Ms Pillsbury. The guidance counselor often spent some hours of her free Saturday cleaning and reorganizing her office.
As Finn ran across the parking lot he saw Mr Schuesters car. He stopped in his tracks. The car stood on the sidewalk. He must have left it there when he was just about to pull into the parking lot. Finn walked across the lot to get a closer look at the car. The view he got now was something he would never forget. The car was kind of trashed at the left side. Finn saw white marks on the blue car. Like another car drove right into it.
He walked to the drivers window. Mr Schuester was sitting in the drivers seat, his body awkwardly positioned . The airbag had blown off. Mr Schuesters head was pushed back against the seat. His eyes were closed and the left side of his body looked like it had been crashed. There was blood running from his left temple and his arm. Finn just stood there in total shock. Then he realized he got to do something. He started yelling 'Mr Schue! Mr Schue! Come on. Talk to me. Mr Schue, please say something!' But Finn got no response.
He ran inside the school as fast as he could. When he got to the choir room he was completely out of breath. As he pushed the door open eleven heads shot up looking right back at him.
'Finn, what happened?' Mercedes was the first to say something. But before Finn could even try to say something Rachel interrupted. 'You are 10 minutes late. There's got to be some good excuse for this.'
Puck got up from his seat and walked over to Finn. 'Rachel, give him a break. Besides, Mr Schue isn't even here yet.' Puck put his hand on Finns shoulder. 'So why are you this late. And this exhausted?'
Finn had finally caught his breath. 'Guys, listen! Mr Schuester had a car crash. I think. I saw him in his car outside. He's like unconscious or something. I don't know.'
'What?' Quinn said and got up while Artie wheeled foreward. 'We gotta do something!'
Rachel ran to the door. Before running outside she shouted over her shoulder 'I'll go get Ms Pillsbury.'
Kurt already had his phone in his hand. 'I'll call 911. Now come on everybody, we have to get out there.'
In that moment everyone started moving. The whole club ran outside and followed Finn to the blue car. Kurt hung up. 'They'll be here as soon as they can.' he informed the others.
They looked at Mr Schuester sitting there so awkwardly. Finn grabbed the door handle. 'Should we open the door? I mean should we do anything? Can we just leave him sitting there?' He looked at his friends.
'Wait, Finn!' That was Ms Pillsbury. She came running towards them with Rachel close behind her. 'Don't do anything. Did you call 911?'
Kurt replied as fast as he could. 'Yes, yes, I did. They'll be here every second.'
All twelve glee kids looked at Ms Pillsbury as she walked up next to Finn and looked at Mr Schuester. Her eyes widened and she let out a gasp. She tried as hard as she could to not break down right then and there. 'Okay, it's gonna be fine. You're gonna be fine, Will. He's gonna be fine.' No one could be quite sure if she said that to assure the kids or just herself.
In that moment they heard the ambulance getting closer. They all stood still holding onto each other as they waited for the ambulance to get to a stop.
One of the paramedics got out. 'Okay, what happened here?...
Emma wasn't sure how she managed not to cry. She sat in the hospital waiting room. After the ambulance arrived everything happened so fast. They got Will out of the car and into the ambulance. Emma rode to the hospital with them. When they got there she was told to wait and off they were around a corner with Will on a stretcher. She had to fill out some forms for him. And now she just waited.
Suddenly it got a lot louder in the room.
'Ms P, how is he?'
'Where is he?'
'Is he alright?'
Emma had all the glee kids' eyes fixed on her. Everybody asked her something.
'Is he awake?'
'Can we talk to him?'
'How are you?'
That last question came from Quinn. Emma looked at the young girl who stood there with her angs folded over her belly.
'I'm fine, just shocked. Like all of us I guess. Thanks, Quinn. Now about Mr Schuester: He got taken into surgery. They said something about internal bleeding.'
'What now?' Finn looked at her with so much worry in his eyes.
'I guess we'll just have to wait.'
The kids sat down. Quinn and Santana took Emma between them. Quinn put her hand on her teachers shoulder and gave her a tiny smile. Emma smiled back and took a look around the room. Here she was sitting with twelve teenagers who all care about this man behind those doors. Will had a strong connection to these students. It was good that they were here. Emma would freak out by herself. She might have seemed calm to the kids right now but inside she was a mess. She couldn't help but picture Wills face covered in blood all the time. No matter what happened between them in the last couple of months, she loved him and she needed him to be alright. Emma almost lost herself in her thoughts when Quinn nudged her in the side.
'Ms Pillsbury, look.'
Two policemen walked up to her.
'Hi everybody.' Emma greeted the glee kids as she walked into the choir room.
They greeted her back and looked at her with questioning expressions. They wanted to know if she got any news on Will.
She shook her head no and sat down at the piano. The room was silent and everybody seemed okay with that.
Emma thought about the past week:
The policemen interrogated Finn and left with the best wishes for Will but no information. On Monday Wills parents came to town. Emma had called them after Will got out of surgery. It was the hardest phone call she ever had to make. She had to tell Wills parents that their son was in a coma because he had damage on his left lung, a broken left arm and a heavy basal skull fracture. But somehow she made it through that phone call. Wills parents were shocked and came as soon as they could which was Monday. They got information from the police. A drunk driver hit Wills car and drove off. They caught the guy.
Right now Will's condition was stable but the doctors aren't sure when he'll wake up. And as long as he doesn't wake up there's still some risk that he might get worse.
Today was Friday and Emma and all the glee kids waited for some kind of news about Wills condition.
'Ms P?' Artie broke the silence and got Emma out of her thoughts. 'We wanted to ask you something...'
'Yes?' Emma didn't know what to expect.
Kurt was the one to actually ask the question. 'Ms Pillsbury, do you think Mr Schues parents would be okay with it if we visited him at the hospital today?'
All twelve teenagers looked at her anxiously. They cared so much about they're teacher and director.
'I'm pretty sure they would be perfectly fine with it. I'll call them right now, okay?'
'That would be so awesome.' Finn smiled at her.
Emma smiled back and then went back to her office to make the call.
'So, what are we gonna sing?' Tina spoke out what everybody thought. Ms Pillsbury earlier told them that they could visit Mr Schue later today. They all just sat in the choir room all day. Even if it were only a few days. They already missed Mr Schue and the music. So they wanted to sing for him at the hospital.
'Smile by Charlie Chaplin' Artie said with a small grin on his face. 'He likes the song and I think it would be nice to sing for all of us.' He glanced over at Rachel afraid she would shut his idea down and come up with something 'much better'.
But she didn't. 'I really like that idea, Artie. Mr Schue loves that song. So let's try it out.'
Somehow today nobody minded letting Rachel decide who should sing which part and somehow today Rachel didn't mind sharing the song with everybody.
'It's really nice of you kids to do this.' Mr Schuester Senior shook all of their hands.
'We really want to. Mr Schue is the best, he's always there for us, he cares about us. We want him to get better.' Finn didn't even try to hide his admiration for his favorite teacher.
'Thank you for letting them do this.' Emma knew how much it meant for the kids to sing to Will.
'Sweetheart,' Wills mum took Emmas hand 'you and these kids here mean a lot to my boy. It's great that you're here. I'm sure he'll get better soon. Now go in there. We're gonna get some food downstairs.'
'Thanks again, Mrs Schuester, Mr Schuester.' Finn said as they all followed Ms Pillsbury into Mr Schues room.
Twelve teenagers and their guidance counselor stood around the hospital bed.
'I've never seen him looking this bad.' Santana was shocked at the paleness in Mr Schues face.
'He looks like my old teddy bear who was in the washer a few times too many.' Brittany was moved by Mr Schues looks.
'Why don't you just sing your song? Maybe that will wake him up.' Emma knew that she only said that as a joke but a small part of her really hoped for Will to get awake because of the song. While the kids now started singing, Emma studied Will. He had a huge band-aid on the left side of his forehead, his left arm was in a cast from his fingers up to the middle of his upper arm. His covers were only covering his body up to his lower chest. Emma could see the bandages around his torso. He had an IV plugged into his right hand and you could see his face wasn't shaved in a week. He looked so weak but still like the handsome man she fell in love with when she started teaching at McKinley. Emma looked over at the kids who stood there singing their hearts out. The girls, Kurt and even Finn had some tears escaping their eyes just like Emma. The song was beautiful and they sounded beautiful just like they always do but today Emma thought they sounded even better.
The song was over but the kids weren't feeling like they were done here.
'Why don't you just sing some more songs. We've got time.' Emma proposed.
They didn't even need to talk about it. Finn just started singing Somebody To Love and the others joined him.
'Emma?' Wills mum stood behind her. 'Can I talk to you outside?'
'Of course.' Emma followed Mrs Schuester into the hallway.
'Emma, I know we've only met two times. I think you remember the Acafellas just like I do. But I just feel like I know you. Will told me so much last week.'
'Last week?' Emma was confused. Will never seemed to be that close with his mother.
'Yeah, I was pretty surprised when he showed up at our house last Friday. The night before the accident I guess. He had dinner with us and then he suddenly just went from being this strong man to being the vulnerable teenager I once knew. He told me everything. I guess he also was a little bit tipsy. He told me how this whole Terri/divorce thing makes him feel. He told me how he got involved with some woman named Shelby. He told me about some awkward night, when this girl April he went to school with slept in his bed and kicked him all night. He told me how all that pushed you away from him. And as he started to talk about you, he just couldn't stop, Emma. He went on and on about every little detail. He talked about PB&J sandwiches and shoes with gum and mustard on his chin. He talked about wedding dresses and how beautiful you looked in yours. And he told me how he feels about you, Emma. I really think he should be the one telling you this, but I want you to see him right now in that hospital bed how he deserves to be seen. He loves you so much, Emma.'
Emma couldn't help but cry. He loves her. He didn't sleep with April. He loves her. He remembers all that stuff. He loves her. 'I.. I .. I love him just as much.'
'Oh, Sweetheart.' Wills mum hugged her. 'Now go in there. I talked to the doctor before coming back up here again and he said that Wills latest test results are pretty good. He might wake up soon.
'Thank you so much for telling me all this.' Emma smiled at her and went back into Wills room.
'Hi, Miss P.' Mike greeted her. 'Are you alright?'
'Yes, I'm fine. So what are you singing next?' Emma didn't want them to stop. It just felt right having them here. She sat down at Wills right side and looked at his face. Carefully she intertwined her fingers with his. 'I love you just as much.' She whispered. Right now she didn't care about germs at all.
Rachel noticed the intertwined hands and got an idea. She remembered Mr Schue running out of the choir room after haring this song. She saw them kissing in the hallway that day. 'I thought we should sing My Life Would Suck Without You. We sang it for him once and I think he really liked it.' Rachel grinned at her friends and they all nodded as they started singing it.
Emma smiled at the kids and then she watched Will closely. She held his hand tighter and quietly sung along. 'And honestly, my life, would suck without you...' The song was over and they all secretly hoped some miracle would happen right now. But Will still just lay there. Emmas mood went down a little bit again. She just wanted to look into his eyes and tell him that she loved him.
She was just about to tell the kids that it probably was time to go home now when Finn started singing this one syllable. The others joined him and it blossomed into 'their song'.
'Don't stop believing...'
Emma just held Wills hand and continued watching his face. When they came to the second chorus it happened. She felt him squeeze her hand. She was so surprised she let out a little scream.
They immediately stopped singing.
'What is it, Ms Pillsbury?' Quinn asked with a lot of concern.
'He.. he just...' Emma didn't know if she just imagined it or if it really happened. 'I think he just...well, I'm not sure...' He squeezed her hand again. 'I.. I think he just squeezed my hand.'
A nurse came rushing into the room. 'Please kids, wait outside.' Turning to Emma she said 'You can stay here if you want.'
'Yes, thanks. Kids, I'll tell you if anything...' Emma started but got interrupted by Santana. 'It's fine. We'll wait outside.' They all smiled at her with hope in their eyes as they left the room.
The nurse gave Will an injection and then said 'He's starting to wake up. It might take a few minutes. You should call the kids back in when he's conscious and ready for it.'
'Yes, thank you.' Emma was so happy, so excited, so nervous. She just sat there holding Wills hand and from the hallway she could hear the kids singing Don't Stop Believing again.
Will slowly started moving more and more. First his hands, than his head, his legs and then he finally opened his eyes. He blinked a few times and squinted. He looked around the room. Then his eyes landed on her.
'Emma?'
'Hi...'
'Hospital?'
'Yes, you had a car accident. You've been here in a coma for a week.'
'Wow...' Will grabbed her hand tight and looked at her. 'You're here.'
'Yes, I came to visit you with the kids today.'
'The kids? You mean the glee kids?'
'They've been here all afternoon singing for you. If you listen closely you can hear them outside right now,'
'I do. Are.. are my parents here?'
'Yes, they're downstairs. Do you want me to go get them?'
'Not yet. I need to tell you something. I meant to tell you this, well I guess a week ago.'
'Will, you're mom...'
'Emma, before you say anything please listen. I know I hurt you. I haven't always treated you like you deserve it. But I hope you can forgive me someday. You are the most important person in my life. You are the best thing in my life. I love you.'
'Will, I love you just as much. And I can forgive you if you forgive me my crazy and my overreactions.'
'There's nothing I need to forgive you.'
'You're mum told me everything, you know. Everything you told her.'
'Oh great, this is just great.' He smiled at her. 'I would kiss you right now but I can't get up and...'
Before he could finish that sentence Emma leaned over and kissed him. It was a soft yet passionate kiss. She ran her hand carefully trough his hair and he used hist cast-free hand to caress her cheek. She pulled away and smiled at him. 'I love you so much, Will.'
'I love you just as much, Emma.'
'Great Job. Mr Schue!' – 'Puck, be quiet.' Those were Puck and Santanas voices.
Will and Emma burst out laughing.
'I think they might have listened.' Emma said. Will followed her eyes to the door which was wide open with all the members of New Directions and Wills parents looking inside.
'Wow, and they might have watched. Just come on in.' Will was so happy to see everybody.
The room got pretty crowded as everybody greeted Will. Well first of all his parents and then the glee girls and Kurt all tackled Will with hugs. Artie, Mike and Matt gave him high fives.
Puck gave him one of those guy hugs with one arm. As he leaned in he whispered in Wills ear: 'You really know how to get them, don't you, Mr Schue?' Will just grinned at him. 'Well apparently I do, Puck.'
'Mr Schue?' Finn was the last one to go up to him.
'Finn, great to see you.'
'Yes, uhm, you too. I just uhm, well I...' Finn didn't really know how to explain himself.
Emma took over: ' Will, Finn was the one who found you in you're crashed car. If it wasn't for him, who knows how long you would have been out there. Oh gosh, I don't wanna think about it.'
Mrs Schuester pulled Emma in a hug. 'It's alright, Emma.'
Will looked over at Emma who tried to calm down and smiled at her. Then he looked at Finn.
'Thank you, Finn.'
'Anytime for you, Mr Schue. It's just that...' he looked over at the other teenagers 'we all felt what it would be like at McKinley without you and it just sucked. We need you there.'
'I need you guys, too. You're all amazing and talented and I believe you're gonna get really far.'
Rachel spoke up. 'Mr Schue, if you don't mind, could we maybe sing something together? I know this sounds really cheesy but you and us and music that's just the way it belongs, don't you think?'
'Yes Rachel, I think so.'
'Guess this means you're sorry, you're standing at my door...' Rachel started and everybody joined in.
Emma walked over to Will and took his hand again.
Brittany and Mike were the first ones to start dancing and soon everybody danced in the small crowded hospital room. When they finished the song Will squeezed Emmas hand and smiled at his glee kids. 'I think we've found ourselves an opening number for Regionals.'
Thanks for reading. Means a lot to me. Reviews would be really nice. Thank you again.
And one more thing: I didn't want to write this at the beginning because it always seems like an excuse, but I wanted to write it somewhere. So I'm from germany and my English might be wrong sometimes or a mix out of British, American and Australian English and I'm sorry for that. Just tell me what I did wrong so my English can get better. Thank you again. :)
