During the Age of Heroes, the mad titan known as Thanos obtained the Infinity Gauntlet and the Infinity Stones. With this much power, he nearly destroyed hundreds of cities. But with the help of a robot named Arsenal, the Avengers defeated Thanos and saved the world.
However, there was still lasting damage to Earth. The city of San Francisco was completely destroyed in a massive earthquake. Work was put into it with the help of Japanese immigrants. And by the end of the Age of Heroes, it was finished under a new name: San Fransokyo.
During that time, genius billionaire playboy philanthropist Tony Stark had an affair with a woman named Rumiko Fujikawa. Not only did that affair caused Stark Industries to become Stark-Fujikawa (since a company merge also took place around that time), but it led to the birth of a child. Unfortunately, the child was put in an orphanage and was eventually adopted by the Hamada family.

The two Hamada brothers are different from one another, as Tadashi pursued a career in robotics and medical care, while Hiro took an interest in fairy tales and sketching. Due to a prophecy predicted by a mutant named Zena (also known as Foresight), Tadashi firmly believed that Hiro had to like robotics as well. But Hiro was encouraged by his parents to continue his drawing hobby, resulting in the brothers having a distant relationship.
