Waves Washed Up on Sand
MakoxKorra
A/N: So the title was inspired by a quote from A:TLA, "Like waves washing footprints off the sand." Not sure how it ties in with my point, but I hope you enjoy this little Makorra one-shot
Disclaimer: I own zip. nada. nothing.
Her hair swayed against the wind, caressing her back with a tingling touch. She leaned back against the cool soft sand as waves pushed and pulled against the tide. A full moon lit up Air Temple Island, casting reflections off Yue Bay, and outlining the Avatar's sharp features. Everything was serene, peaceful, and collected. She wished she could stay in this position for ever.
"Korra?" a familiar voice questioned silently from behind her. Her heart lurched at the sound of the voice. A broad handsome firebender stepped out from behind the overgrowth, his dark hair fluttering in the breeze. His presence made her heart tingle.
Mako slid beside her, replenishing her with warmth and safety out on the barren beach. Korra turned towards him.
"So, where's Asami and Bolin?" she asked curiously, roaming her aqua pools over his face.
He chuckled slightly. "Why are you worried about them? It's just you and me right now." She smiled warmly and glanced out at the clear blue water.
"It's beautiful," she whispered. "The bay."
"Yeah," he agreed, running a hand through his already-ruffled hair. "It is." They sat side by side together happily, enjoying their rare time with each other Korra silently wished the two of them could do this more often, but she knew the chances were slim.
"You've been doing great with Asami," she commented, casually leaning close to the sand.
He grinned. "What do you mean?"
"You know, after discovering the motives of her father and all, you really comforted her and you were there for her…" Her voice cracked unintentionally, and she ducked her face to hide the pink that creped on the tips of her cheeks.
Mako studied the Avatar's face for quite some time.
Beautiful. Her eyes. Her hair. Her smile. Everything was perfect…. But Asami. His feelings confused him so much it hurt. A sigh escaped his lips and Korra cocked her head slightly, but remained silent. If only he could tell her how he felt…. More than he already had… His amber eyes gleamed as they stared into her beautiful blue circles. He bent his face down slowly as hers moved forward to his. Their lips brushed and Korra almost gasped as he pressed his lips against hers. A part of Mako knew that this was wrong, but a bigger part of him wanted it so much. The Avatar responded, returning the kiss passionately. The firebender broke away and she frowned in slight disappointment.
"I'm sorry, Korra. It was in the heat of the moment and I just…. I just." He fiddled with his fingers nervously.
"It's alright, Mako. I'll keep this between us. Oh Agni, Asami," she sighed. The waves washed up roughly against the sand as the night progressed.
The firebender barely listened. "I better get back in the Air T-temple," he stammered, stumbling to his feet.
The Avatar frowned once more. "Oh, okay . If you must…." A pang of sadness hit her as she realized what Mako must be feeling after their second kiss.
As he walked away, he turned around quickly before he left. "Korra?"
"Yes?"
He twiddled with his fingers nervously again. "That was nice."
She smiled widely as the bay water pushed and pulled against the sand.
Cheesy, I know, but that's what I do. Thanks guys for reading! Reviews are appreciated!
