Warning: If you haven't completed the Dark Brotherhood quest line and don't want the ending to be spoiled, I suggest leaving now.
A/N: This is the story of Lucien Lachance's life. It will explain many things such as who he killed to join the Dark Brotherhood, how he came to be in possession of Shadowmere and why she's so important, and a few other things.
Also, the player of the game/Champion of Cyrodiil, whatever you want to call it, is part of this story. In this story she is a female, but she and Lachance don't have a romantic relationship in case you were worried about that.
I know this is short, but it's just a prologue. I hope you like it! Reviews are appreciated.

Prologue

Rain poured down over the city of Bravil from the night sky draped in shadow.
The weather was rather fitting for one who was marked for death.
I watched somberly as my Silencer mounted my magnificent steed Shadowmere. Pain erupted in my heart as I watched the two of them leave the stables. I wasn't normally one to feel a longing for anything save for the blood of others, but knowing that my days were numbered certainly changed my perspective.
I could trust my Silencer with Shadowmere. I had no doubt about that, she had certainly proven her worth to me.
But Shadowmere had, at one time, been my most prized possession and my only companion. I had given her to my Silencer, never suspecting that I would soon be joining Sithis in the Void.
I pulled my shoulders back and stood tall. I felt somewhat ashamed of my blatant fear of impending death. I was not frightened easily, in fact, not even as a child did I cower in fear before my father's hand.
The only thing I both feared and revered was death.
I forced myself to turn away as my Silencer and Shadowmere took off in the direction of Anvil, where the key to my salvation lay. I mounted the unspectacular black horse I had 'borrowed' from a traveling merchant and paused for a moment, sitting in the saddle, staring out into the night.
I wondered how it would happen.
In what manner did the Black Hand plan to punish me for my treachery? The thought chilled me to the bone and I shivered for reasons other than the persistent rain falling from the stars.
No, I thought, there is no time to dwell on such idle thoughts. My fate awaits me…
I smiled sadly and kicked my heels against the sides of the horse. It reared back and let loose a loud whinny before taking off toward my destination.
I sighed. Applewatch, I thought grimly.
As the horse raced beneath me, I thought back on everything that lead me here, to my last moments before the Night Mother welcomed me into her cold embrace.
Some might believe that it was meeting my Silencer that set off a chain reaction, but I disagree. While she played a major role, my fate had been sealed since the beginning.
I had been born a child of Sithis and I would die a child of Sithis.
