A/N: Aaand...one of my first SasuSaku stories! It was inspired by the beginning of "Melt" by Hatusne Miku...to me, it sounds like someone eating a popsicle or sucking on ice on a hot summer day. Beware of the fluff!
I don't own Naruto.
"Ugh…so hot…"
The summers of Fire Country are notoriously hot. In the Village Hidden in the Leaves, however, the heat is trapped between immensely tall forests, huge white walls, and the infamous Hokage Monument.
The result?
A pit of absolute hell for the residents, ninja and civilian alike. It was times like these when having wind or water natured chakra came in handy.
The reason?
Wind users, like Sarutobi Asuma and Uzumaki Naruto, could summon cooling breezes to ward off the oppressive clouds of humidity. Water users, like Hyūga Hinata and that one Chuunin who's always stuck on gate duty, could use water-style jutsu to periodically douse themselves with freezing liquid.
For non-ninja and those with other chakra natures, Konohan summers are the worst part of the year.
Two members of the latter group sit on the porch of a recently-clean apartment, sucking on ice cubes.
"Ne, Sasuke-kun, do you think it'll ever cool off?"
A pink-haired girl asks, swinging her long legs over the side of the wooden platform. She wears a red tank top and white short-shorts, with bare feet tipped in lime. Her eyes sparkle a brilliant emerald, and her pale skin is slightly flushed from both the heat and the presence of her silent companion.
"Hn."
Sasuke grunts, shaking long black bangs away from equally-black eyes. He's discarded his shirt in the vain hope that a breeze will blow away the uncomfortable warmth in his chest, and white cargo shorts cover his legs. His feet are bare as well, and he leans back, putting weight on his hands.
The silence is beginning to get a little awkward. The girl shifts, going to pop another ice cube in her mouth, but finds the glass empty. She sighs and reaches over her teammate and close friend, slender fingers reaching for the cup on his left.
She overbalances and flops into his lap. She then turns a shade of crimson unrivaled by any tomato as she meets his somewhat shocked gaze. He closes his mouth and shakes his head, grabbing more ice.
She hears him speak through the ice. His voice is like a sheet of soft, silky velvet.
"Sakura."
"Hm?"
"Look up."
Sakura obeys, slightly confused, tilting her head up to look him in the eyes.
Then his hand is underneath her chin and his lips are brushing hers.
They're warm and cold at the same time, and soft, softer than a pair of downy feathers. She feels the melted ice against her mouth and gasps, letting the water into her mouth. He pulls away slowly, resting his forehead against hers before sliding away.
Sakura pulls herself away in a daze, shuffling to the right about a knows that look. She's in shock. And an even brighter hue of red than before. He gives her a small smile.
"You look hot."
And somehow, she knew he wasn't referring to the sweltering warmth surrounding them.
