Disclaimer: Obviously I do not own Harry Potter, otherwise this sad excuse of a story would never have been written.

Warning: Slash, if you do not like: do not read.

After Deathly Hallows, just a random drabble, that could have been.

He was alone, always alone. Darkness surrounded him. He felt like he was being consumed by the darkness. No, he didn't want that, he would do anything not to be consumed, he was panicking now and he couldn't breathe.

Suddenly he awoke gasping for air. As the world came into focus around him he remembered he wasn't alone anymore. But lying in bed next to his lover did not keep the thoughts from raging through his mind. Trying to put these thoughts that the nightmare had induced behind him; he placed a trembling hand on the person lying beside him. Harry gently brushed the hair out of his lovers face and caressed their cheek. He smiled as he looked at his love; no he was not alone anymore. The smile on his face made him feel like he would burst, but that's what just the thought of his lover did to him, he thought to himself laughing inside. He had finally found someone. Voldemort, no Riddle had not taken that away from him too. It had been close though, too close for Harry's comfort.

Standing he went to the window and stared up at the velvet sky studded with stars. A cool wind caressed his cheek as he stared out into the night and tried to forget the nightmares that not only plagued his sleep but his every waking moment. He knew the nightmares meant nothing when he looked into the face of his love, but those reminders were needed more often now. Riddle had scarred him not only physically but mentally as well.

Harry sighed in content as he felt the caress of the wind replaced by the caress of his lover's lips. He smiled as green eyes met brilliant blue ones. His lover did not break their gaze as he spoke to Harry.

"Another nightmare?" Harry just nodded his head in reply. Harry accepted the embrace of his lover. In his arms he felt safe, even if only for a minute. As he took Harry into his arms he told him

"You know he's not coming back, I promise that he's not waiting behind a corner to grab me."

Harry wished he could believe him, but even the feel of his lover's hand on his cheek and his arms surrounding him would not stop the visions tonight. He burrowed deeper into Ron's embrace.

"Maybe not Ron, but in my nightmares he comes for you again and again and I can't do anything to stop him."

"But you did do something; otherwise I would not be holding you in my arms right now. Harry it's over, this time he's not coming back."

A finger slowly traced over the scar on his chest, and then a whisper in his ear "he won't ever hurt me or anyone else that we love because he's really gone. I love you."

"It won't ever be enough; you know that"

"I know, but that's what I'm here for." Harry felt the chuckle come from down in Ron's chest. "I love you" Harry whispered into his chest "I need you, please don't ever disappear on me"
