A young girl ran on silent feet through the ever darkening forest. High musical notes wafted from her small wooden flute and the surrounding nature reacted to her frantic call. Thick, thorny vines erupted from the hard packed earth and twisted their tendrils to make a wall of thorns. Small pebbles grew to twice their original size and amassed together to from small barricades. A distant cry of anger could be heard as her pursuer met the blockades. She allowed herself a small smile but she did not cease her frenzied run. He would escape. He always did. It was a dangerous game of cat and mouse that had been going on for centuries. Her magic was fueled by the nature itself and would never run out but no matter how many ways she tried, he always found a way get past her barriers. His strength, like her magic, was never failing. All they could do was wait for the moment when the other would slip up. Just once was all it took. One misstep, one wrong note, and it was all over. She whipped her head sharply to glance behind her where the crack of a branch still echoed in the silent woods. In a panic, her footsteps faltered as she tried to face the dark path in front of her again. From behind her, a dark chuckle resounded and before she could turn back around a gloved hand covered her mouth while the other grabbed her wrists, ceasing her frantic struggles.
"I've got you now." And his dark laugh echoed into the night.
