A Good Joke

Raven sat in the corner of the common room, reading her book. This was the usual way of events each day. Robin and Cyborg were sitting on the couch playing video games. Starfire was in the kitchen cooking some Tamaranean dish no one else would eat. Beast Boy was...probably still asleep, as it was only 10am.

She just had to think of him and here he was. Not that she WAS thinking of him persay.

-Of course you weren't Raven-
-Shut up, Affection-

Beast Boy glanced around the common room, then looked at Raven. Swallowing as though he were nervous, he walked over and sat down next to her. She watched him for a while, wondering what he was up to. He was being too quiet.

"Hey, Rae," he began.

"It's Raven," she countered automatically.

"Can I tell you a joke?"

Everyone stopped what they were doing and turned around to look at him.

"Bonus points for asking this time, Beast Boy, but no."

"Aw, come on, Rae-"

"RAVEN!"

"-I promise you'll like this one."

"Really?" She was intruiged, somewhat. "And if I don't?"

"If you don't like this joke..." He thought for a bit. "Then I won't tell any jokes for a whole month."

*CLANG!*

Starfire had dropped a bowl in the kitchen.

Raven raised an eyebrow.

-Hmm...if it's a good joke that I actually like, it means his humor is improving and he might actually be worth spending time around. If not, no jokes for a month. Win win.-
-You better tell him you like it!-
-Shut up, Happy!-

"All right, Beast Boy. Let's hear this joke."

"Sweet. Knock Knock."

"I don't like it."

"Aw come on, Raven. You didn't even give it a chance."

"All right, since you got my name right...who's there?"

"Eye ruff."

? "Eye ruf who?" ! She moved to pull up her hood to hide her blush as she realized what it sounded like she just said.

"I hope so, Rae," Beast Boy said quickly, leaning in and planting a quick kiss on her lips. "Cause I do." Turning into a cheetah, he quickly fled the room.

Cyborg's jaw hit the floor. Smoke was coming out of Robin's ears. Starfire squeeled.

"Friend Raven! Beast Boy has confessd the special feelings of romance for you! Is this not wonderful?" She began to dance around joyously.

Realizing that Starfire was right, Raven warped out of the common room. She had to talk to Beast Boy.

Beast Boy was sitting on the roof. He head Raven appear behind him, and waited for her to speak.

"I didn't like it," she finally said.

His heart fell. He was being rejected. "I see...okay...I-"

"I didn't like...that it was a joke."

His heart leaped. Did that mean...? Only one way to find out now. "I was serious." He turned to face her.

"Y-you're not supposed to tell jokes for a month, Beast Boy," she said, pulling up her hood to hide her blush.

"I'm not joking Raven. It...it was the only way I could get it out." He approached her slowly. "I...I didn't mean to hurt you."

She was quiet for a while. Then she looked up and met his gaze. "Give it another try, then."

Hope filling his heart, he walked up to her. "Raven...I love you."

She watched him for a while, not saying anything. His eyes started to fall, as he felt his hope die.

"You also stole my first kiss, Beast Boy, and it was a lousy one."

He looked up at he, sadly. "Is there anyway I can make it up to you?"

She smiled at him. "You can make my second kiss a lot better."

He stared for a while, then smiled. "Anything you say, Rae." Coming up to her, he gently cupped he face in his hands, and brought his lips to hers, both gently and passionately.

After they parted, Raven looked up into his eyes...

-When did he get taller than me?-

...and sighed contentedly. Leaning into his chest, she felt his arms wrap around her. Quietly, she whispered, "Now THAT'S a punchline."
