The cold night wind blew in through the open window of Emily's room. The light wind breathed cold air on her face as she sat cross-legged on her bed, her phone on her right side. She was waiting for the familiar vibration. She was waiting for Paige.

The two girls hadn't talked in a while .Ever since Emily had hurt he shoulder, the girls hadn't talked very much. Since that night at Emily's surprise party, when they realized they most likely weren't going to be together next year.

Emily had tried repeatedly over the past three days to reach Paige. Calling her, texting her, anything. Paige just wouldn't respond.

Emily's phone buzzed. She reached to grab it, wincing from the pain in her shoulder. It was Spencer.

The text read,

"Hey going to movies. Wanna come?"

Emily was about to reply when she heard the doorbell ring. She ran down stairs and opened the door. There standing on her front porch was a shivering, Paige McCullers.

"Hey!" Emily said surprised.

"Can I come in? I really need to talk to you," Paige said through chattering teeth.

"Sure, sure," Emily said and guided Paige up to her room. Paige flopped down on Emily's bed with a soft thud.

"What's up?" Emily asked.

Paige sat at up and looked Emily directly in the eyes.

"Em I'm really sorry I've been ignoring you these last couple of days. I just-I don't want to accept to fact of us not being together," she started to tear up, "I realized that I want to spend as much time as I can with you now. Oh Em… If only I had been there to protect you… I could've saved you from getting hurt,"

Emily was in shock. The girl whom she had known to be so strong, so confident, was now in pieces in front of her. Emily went and sat on the bed in front of Paige, gently placing her hand on her cheek.

Paige looked up, their eyes meeting.

"I know this is hard. I'm trying my best to recover from the injury. But you're right. We need to accept the possibility that I may not go to Stanford with you. Paige you are a beautiful girl and I am so thankful that you are here to protect me," Emily said softly.

Paige wrapped her arms around Emily's waist and brought her closer. Emily smiled and ran her fingers though her girlfriend's soft, silky, brown hair. She wiped the tears from Paige's eyes and slowly leaned in, planting a light kiss on her cheek. Paige pulled Emily so that she was sitting in her lap.

"I don't want to let you go," Paige whispered as she kissed Emily on the lips. The kiss intensified as Paige grabbed at Emily's dark brown hair. Emily moved her hands down Paige's body. Paige shivered as she felt Emily touch the bare skin above her pants. Emily pulled away from the kiss. Paige leaned int though, not wanting it to end.

"Paige," Emily said putting her hand to Paige's lips. Paige opened her eyes.

"Sorry," she said and blushed, bowing her head, refusing to make eye contact.

Emily giggled.

"You are so cute when you blush," Emily grinned and pulled Paige back in.

Moments later Paige broke the kiss this time saying,

"I promise. I will never leave you."

The phone buzzed next to Emily. She picked to see another text from Spencer.

"I'll take you silence as a no then?" it read

Emily quickly texted back:

"Sorry I have other plans."

She threw her phone on the table next to her bed, before being pulled in by Paige once again.
