She was sitting, her back against the icy cold wall, her body racking with sobs, shivering. It pained me to see her like this. Slowly, I slid down the wall with her, wrapping my arms around her thin frame. Thankfully, she didn't push me away.
"It's okay, everything will be alright," I assured her, but she only cried harder.
"She was my best friend; how could she betray me like that! I trusted her," she sobbed.
My eyes darkened at her words, remembering the events of earlier today, not forty-five minutes ago. Rose and I were on patrol like we were supposed to be, occasionally kicking people out of broom closets and deducting house points. We walked in a comfortable silence, which was not unusual for us.
To my utter dismay, we were just friends. After spending a year as the Head Boy to her Head Girl, I realized that she was most definitely not the arrogant, stick-up-her-ass Gryffindor princess. She was quite amazing, and I have fallen hard for her since. She, on the other hand, was completely oblivious, I think.
So when we turned the corner and almost ran into her boyfriend, Jack,(Jack and Rose, doom bringer I know) and best friend, Mabel, locked in a passionate embrace, I was angered but slightly giddy inside.
However, Rose had different ideas. Her mouth fell open, and her expression shifted from one of shock, to hurt, to anger. When Jack and Mabel saw us, they sprang apart, and the excuses began.
"Rose, it's not what it looks like I—"he started.
Rose slowly walked up to him, slapped him on the face, turned around, and sprinted in the opposite direction. I turned on him next. i pinned him to the wall, my wand at his throat, and said,
"How dare you hurt her you little piece of utter shit, Don't ever come near her again, or you'll have me to deal with!"
The message must have gotten across, because him and Mabel fled the scene like cats fled from water.
My thoughts turned to Rose and I walked in the direction she had ran in. When I finally found her, she was in the seventh floor corridor. Coming back from my thoughts, I tightened my hold on her, whispering calming words in her ear. To my surprise, she wrapped her arms around my neck and buried her face into my chest. There was no need for a sorry, that was understood.
"Thank you Scorpius, thank you for being here for me." she said. She pulled back a bit still looking at her chest.
I put two fingers under her chin, pushing up, forcing her beautiful icy blue yes to meet mine.
"I'll be here for you forever and always Rosie." I softly admitted. I don't know what came over me after that, maybe the way she looked into my eyes, or the way her hair was slightly messed up from running her hands through it, but I leaned in and kissed her. It was a gentle kiss, and I half expected her to pull away. She was still for a moment, but then she responded, moving her lips slowly against mine. I put my had on the side of her chin and deepened the kiss. She responded, and then slowly pulled away.
"I'm sorry Rose, I don—" I explained, panicked. She smiled, her eyes lighting up like I had never seen before. She kissed me again, effectively shutting me up, smiling as she kissed me.
"I have wanted to do this for a while now. Those idiots can do whatever the hell they want. "Rose exclaimed.
"Me too," I said as I pulled her close to me again. "I won't let anyone hurt you ever again."
She answered me by wrapping her arms around me, burying herself even deeper into my arms. We sat like that for hours, maybe days, silently promising each other eternity.
