Title: Greatest Betrayl
Author: CandyRainbowPirate
Pairings: JokerxOC, etc.
Summary: The best part of believing in someone is the lie. You never know who's who, or what will really happen.
A/N: Okay, so most of you that know me already know that I switched profiles. To my past readers that was trying to keep up with this story and doesn't know what's going on, I, well, yeah, switched profiles and I'm also rewriting/reposting this story here. The OC was a little on the Mary-Sue side, so I decided to fix it up somewhat. :D
Enjoy and review!
Chapter One: The Deal
Six Pm was the starting hour of twilight in Gotham. Outside, all the buildings were turning on their lights; illuminating the city. Inside my apartment, there were no lights on. I stood outside on my balcolny letting my thoughts wander.
I waited for an hour out here for him now. He was late. He told me six o'clock on the dot. But then again, he always has a reason for doing what he does, or ever did. I know this, because well, I just know his ways.
Ten more minutes and then I'm going inside. That's what I decided. But then I heard my door creak open slowly, so I didn't move. He was here. The door shut and his footsteps grew louder in my mind with every move.
"Well, well, well...hello." he spoke up.
"You're late." I informed him. Not to badger him, but to simply remind him. He was always obsessed with everything being exact.
"Oh no, I'm so sorry, love." he apologized. "I had to -- ahh, work out a couple-a things..."
"Something exciting and very chaotic, I'm sure?" I guessed.
"You know me too well." he said. His voice was nasal-like, but suave. His arm extended around my waist as he stood behind me. He pulled me closer to him. "How long has it been know, lolipop? How ahh, long have the two of us been friends?"
"Over ten years..." I replied. "...on the dot."
"Ten, really?" he said, amazed. I could feel the warmth of his breath lace around my ear and the back of my neck."I guess--uh--time really does fly when you're having lots of fun, eh?"
"I suppose so." I said. "But last year, I only saw you once in a blue moon. And when I do see you, you need something from me."
"Yes, what's your point?"
"It's our...anniversery, if you will." I started to explain. I slowly started to turn around. "What do you need this time, Joker?"
He grinned, his tounge darting out once. "I think you're-a...gonna like this one. It's very simple, if you think about it. But would you help me?"
"I have no other choice, you marked me." I told him. I placed my hand under my heart; a lower part right on my chest, showing him.
"How could I forget, dollface." Joker chuckled. "The symbol of our...bonded friendship." But ahh, I go back to my original question; would you help me?"
"Yes." I replied. "What do you want?"
"Find our little buddy's real identity."
"Batman? How would I do that?"
"You're smart, you'll figure it out." Joker said. "That's why I chose you ten years ago, remember?"
His infamous, almost Chesire Cat smile imprinted on his face.
"Of course." I smiled back. "Just give me the details, and I can do it."
"That's my girl." Joker replied, with great satisfaction. He approached me closer, putting both his hands on my face. "Now, remember; go with it. Don't make any stray moves and always listen for a phone."
"Got it."
His tounge darted out of his mouth once again. "Good." He studied me again, feeling just about every part of my face; even running his fingers through my hair. "You know, the years have done you good, Romy." His left lightly tapped me on the cheek. "Just keep that head straight and you'll be golden."
He smiled again, and I returned it. That was my good-bye to him, at least for now.
Golden. I repeated in my head. Or in other words, that meant what's kept me from getting my throat slit. Yeah, I'm perfectly golden.
