I got the inspiration for this story while writing Breredith fanfics. Not much to say since it kinda created itself.
Anyways, enjoy.
"Lupin can't sing! Lupin can't sing! Lupin cannot sing!"
That song haunted Brian since the completion of AVPS. He felt lucky being such a famous character, sure. But the fact that people believed he really couldn't sing actually annoyed him to no end.
He knew how to sing. He wouldn't say he was the best, but he knew damn well how to carry a tune. But that joke had been going on for so long, even the Team believed he couldn't do it.
Yes, Starship was different altogether. He auditioned with the hopes that maybe he could get himself somewhere as a musical performer more than just an actor.
But one little distraction made him screw up so badly that he ended up as part of a team of mosquitoes.
Now that he thought about it, it wasn't so bad. Being a part of a trio of bloodsucking sidekicks was fun, but after that, he really was just a chorus boy. That may have been good for the time though because every time she performed he forgot his lyrics within seconds.
Damn. Meredith knew how to deliver.
Now he had a chance again. Auditions for Holy Musical Batman were happening here and now. He couldn't screw this up. He had to be able to show them what he can do.
So when he stepped in front of his peers, he nearly forgot all over again when he saw her watching from afar.
He refocused, fighting with his memory to remember what really mattered right now: proving them all wrong.
He sang:
"Dreams... that's where I have to go...
To see your beautiful face anymore..."
He kept going, his confidence growing and his eyes occasionally focusing on her. He had chosen this song in case a problem like now arose. He figured if he was going to catch all of his attention, why not use that to his advantage?
He had to be only halfway through the second verse when they stopped him. He felt his confidence sink into the shadows once more. Was he that bad? Did his plan backfire?
After a few moments of whispering, Nick Lang smiled at him, "Brian, how would you like to be Superman?"
"Oh no! Are my limitless powers actually wearing off! ...No!" Holden zoomed past Joe Walker in his Bat Plane. Several months had past since the auditions, and God did it feel good to be in a show like this. As it turns out, they loved his audition and Superman sung multiple songs throughout, both in the chorus, but also as the Metropolis superhero. It felt good, like the world he lived in and the world he wanted to be a part of had merged into one.
And yet, Meredith was still distracting him.
It didn't matter what she was dressed as. Whether a geeky nerd with an afro or the simplistic damsel Rachel Dauss, she always had him under a spell.
He exited the stage while the next scene went on with Walker and Criss Allen. He spotted her heading for the dressing rooms to change. Enough was enough. He followed after her, tapping on her shoulder when he finally approached.
"What's up?" she asked. He didn't know what came over him. Their lips just met. He was only going to talk to her, not make out with her. When he release her, he expected a slap in the face.
Meredith chuckled, "About time you did something."
