Commodus trembled as he spoke, his lips shaking as he choked out the words that poured from his torn heart. Lucilla sat on her bed listening intently with her eyes closed. "Everytime I touch your unworthy skin, everytime I kiss your unfaithful lips, and everytime I embrace yor soiled body, I do it with all the love in my heart, all the heart in my soul. I gave you everything, if not more, but still, you do not take my hand unless I offer it, you do not kiss my lips unless I derect it, and you do not embrace my body as I embrace yours, but most of all, you do not look into my eyes and see my soul that says I love you more than life itself as I look into yours and find nothing but hatred and fear."
Rivers poured from Lucilla's eyes. She could'nt speak. No words would flow from her mouth.
"And," Commodus started agian with his voice even softer,"Even though you do not love me as I love you, I shall leave you some thing else. I shall leave you this palace, your son, and you god forrbidon lover. But that's not all, one more thing, the biggest thing of all. I shall you paint you a masterpiece with my dark, red blood that ends this conspiricay agianst me so you no longer have to endure the pain that I so harmfully set on you and you will be free to live with him, the man you love, Maximus."
Still, Lucilla lay frozen. "Commodus," she choked out after a long silence. "You can not do this!"
"Why not?! You do not want me here. You never did. No one ever did."
Lucilla quickly stood and looked into his eyes. "I love you, Commodus, but not in the way you love me. And my father loved you."
Commodus turned. He could not bare to look into her eyes any longer. "If you so dearly love me and if my father so dearly loved me, then how come I never heard those words before? How come you never said you loved me? How come he never said he loved me? I know why, Lucilla, because you do not love me and he did not either and there is no point for me to be here. I am leaving and you can not stop me. Goodbye." The first steps were the hardest for him, but soon he began to walk faster and then run and then sprint.
Lucilla fell to the ground. Her face filled with tears. "What have I done?"
