All right guys, this is my first Sweeney Todd fanfic. A thought struck me not to long ago (It's in my profile under Things I Ponder) what if Sweeney Todd discovered that Johanna was right there in front of him in that scene? This is what I think would happen (But of course, Stepehen Sondheim would've probably done a better job than me if he considered it XD)
Disclaimer: I do not own Sweeney Todd: The Demon Darber of Fleet Street. It belongs to Tim Burton, and Stephen Sondheim.
Yellow Hair
…
…
"Come for a shave lad?" Mr. Todd asked the young person in the trunk.
Johanna was frightened. She wished that Anthony would be back soon…soon so she and him could escape from this wretched town of London.
Before she could react, Mr. Todd seized her by the arm and forcefully dragged her to the chair. He pushed her down on the seat and hastily retrieved his blade from his wooden box.
He didn't bother with the cream.
Johanna tried to escape but his hold was too strong. Mr. Todd began to reach around her head to deliver her 'shave' but suddenly, his arm hit her cap and it rolled onto the floor. It stopped by the window.
Mr. Todd stopped for a moment and witnessed something he thought he would never see again.
Yellow Hair…
He walked to the front of the 'man' and saw that it was a girl.
"Johanna…" he gasped.
Mr. Todd dropped his razor and staggered backwards slowly, realizing what he'd almost done.
Johanna was confused. She knew that just about everyone knew that she lived with Judge Turpin…yet there was something different about this man.
"Y-Yes…?" she stuttered.
Mr. Todd was shaking. He'd had come this close to killing his daughter. She was here now…after all those years…
"Did you need something of me sir?" Johanna asked softly.
Mr. Todd calmed down and walked toward the chair. He kneeled and looked Johanna in the face with a soft look.
"I'm…truly sorry, dear, if I gave you a fright." He said.
Johanna nodded.
"I have to ask you…do you…remember your mother?"
Johanna remained silent for a few moments. Why was this man asking strange questions all of a sudden? What did he care about her mother? Was this a type of joke?
With reluctance, she nodded.
Mr. Todd smiled…he wasn't one who smiled that often. He got up and picked up his knife, placed in it his pocket, then stood by the window.
"When you were young, did she mention a man by the name of Benjamin Barker?"
Johanna thought for a moment. She did remember the time that her mother and Judge Turpin were arguing about someone like that.
She remembered she was hiding in the closet, and her mother was yelling at him.
"What did you do to my Benjamin?"
"I sent him away for life, dear Lucy, so we could be together."
Johanna nodded again. Then hope struck her. "Do you know him, sir?"
Mr. Todd nodded and looked over at Johanna. "Yes, I knew the man. He came back to London after the Judge sent him to jail…escaped he did. A boy named Anthony found him adrift in the sea, and rescued him. He found work in a room above Ms. Lovett's pie shop."
Johanna gasped. "Father…?"
Mr. Todd's smile widened.
