Not all Pearls are fortunate
"Pearl wait out here," Blue Diamond instructed, "I'll come get you when I'm done."
"Yes, my Diamond," Blue Pearl gently responded, before taking her place next to Yellow Pearl. This was an important meeting, so much so, the pearls couldn't be present. That was fine, that was how things were.
As they stood next to each other, Blue Pearl couldn't help but notice that Yellow Pearl looked somewhat distraught. Usually she was straight and snide. Right now, she was slightly slouched, and her hands were fidgeting.
"What's the matter?" Blue asked.
Yellow was silent before answering, "We… needed to see White Diamond today."
"Oh…" Blue said, she knew immediately why Yellow was upset. She saw White Pearl.
"… How was she?"
"… Same."
Pearl's were servants. They served the aristocratic gems with their duties. The higher the rank the more likely they were to have Pearls. And Diamonds were the rulers of gem kind. It was an honor to serve a Diamond. To help them rule the gems and maintain the natural order. Both Yellow and Blue Pearl were proud of their stations, but every time they saw White Pearl… It seemed less like an honor and more like torture. The last Pearl White had was shattered. Not by White… it was a suicide shattering.
"Why does she do that to her?" The question slipped from Blue's mouth. Immediately Yellow placed a hand over her mouth and looked around. Thankfully there was no one around.
"You know we can't question a Diamond," Yellow whispered pulling her hands away.
"But, she does everything right, and White Diamond still…"
"I…" Yellow hesitated, "I don't like it either. She purposely makes her defective… she punishes her, even when she does her job correctly… Her gem may be intact, but… she's still broken. The last time I tried to interact with her… She just stood there smiling."
"My Diamond…" Blue began, "She doesn't do that to me."
"Nor does mine," Yellow added, "But not every Pearl receives a… merciful owner. And even if we… don't like it… We can't question a supreme gem."
"Do you think Pink Diamond will treat her Pearl… Like White?"
"… I hope not."
