"What's it like?" Artemis asked as she walked into Wally's room at Mount Justice.
Wally looked up startled from the comic book he was reading. "Come again?"
"What's it like? The super speed I mean."
"Oh," he sat up and made room for her to sit down which she did, "well…" He paused trying to figure out the best way to explain. "Sometimes it's awful: having to slow down for everyone else, having to eat all the time to maintain my energy, and being pretty much the only one who knows what it's like to be me. But even with all that, it's still the best thing that's ever happened to me." A smile spread across his face and he stared dreamily into space before continuing, "When I can just run, no obstacles, no distractions, so fast it feels like I'm flying… It's kind of hard to explain."
Artemis sat there, trying to process what she'd heard. She'd never really given much thought to the negative sides of Kid Flash's powers before. She was interrupted from her thoughts by Wally's question, "What brought all this on, anyway?"
"Nothing really, I was just curious. Thanks for telling me."
Hesitantly, as she started to get up Wally said, "I could… show you. You know - if you wanted me to."
"What do you mean?"
Wally got up and led Artemis out of the room. "Just come on."
After a short walk down to the beach, Wally stopped and handed Artemis a pair of goggles. "Here, you can wear my spares," he said while slipping on an identical pair.
Comprehension dawned in Artemis' mind. "Are you sure this is a good idea?" she asked nervously.
"Sure it is." He held out his hand. When she still hesitated, he smiled and said, "Come on, I won't let anything happen to you. Promise."
She sighed and placed her hand in his and before she could so much as blink she was swept up into his arms and held securely against his chest. Her protests were cut off as Wally started to run.
He started off relatively slowly to let her get used to the sensation. Then, when they were away from the obstacles around Happy Harbor and he felt Artemis start to relax, he really took off. Artemis gasped as the scenery blurred around her. Then Kid Flash skidded to a halt and set Artemis down. She stumbled a bit, adjusting to the stillness. She looked around and noticed they were back outside the mountain.
"Well?" Wally asked, "Did that help?"
"That was incredible!" Artemis gasped out.
A smile split Wally's face. "I know right? Makes everything worth it."
"I can see why." Artemis' smile matched Wally's own.
"Well, that kind of made me hungry. Wanna go see if Megan made any cookies today?"
"Sure," she said as she led the way inside the mountain. "And Wally?" He paused on his way to the kitchen. "Thanks."
"Anytime, Beautiful."
Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed it. Review please?
