A little oneshot inspired by the Zac Brown song As She's Walking Away, and the Keith Anderson song She Could Have Been Mine. House contemplates what he sees in a grocery store. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: Not mine!

Gregory House hated shopping.
Being in such close quarters with other humans and not getting paid for it was not his idea of fun. Even though he had a short grocery list, it was feeling like an eternity to get the damn stuff as he pushed his buggy awkwardly through the crowd.
It was a few days after Thanksgiving, and Wilson had refused to come along. So he was stuck with the choices of a few cans of expired tuna, ordering out for the millionth time, or actually going out and buying a few groceries. Probably against his better judgment, he decided to go out. At least he could pick up some booze and Playboys, too.
He smirked to himself. Couldn't get that delivered. If he could, he'd die of starvation because he would never leave his apartment.
Rounding the corner, he found himself on the candy aisle. But before he could start rummaging through the brightly colored bags and boxes of sugary treats, he noticed a little girl standing by herself in the middle of the aisle. He looked at her, then glanced around, expecting an adult to come rushing to claim her.
No such adult appeared.
The little girl looked up at him, and he was taken aback by the intensity of her cerulean eyes. She studied him, and he returned the scrutiny.
Finally he asked, "Where's your mom?"
She continued to stare at him.
Finally a woman came around the corner, but he didn't look at her. It wasn't until she spoke that he jerked his head up.
"Cameron…"
Allison Cameron studied her former boss. "Hey, House."
He swallowed hard. The last time he had seen her was three years ago, when she left his bed in the middle of the night and disappeared. Since then, he had wondered where she went, though he never said a word to anyone about it.
The little girl reached out and took Cameron's hand, shoving the thumb of her free hand into her mouth.
Absently Cameron reached down and gently stroked her daughter's chestnut hair. "Annabelle, can you say hello?"
Annabelle blushed and buried her face in her mother's leg.
Finally finding his voice again, House muttered, "Are you sure that's your kid? She's too quiet."
"She's a little shy." Cameron lifted Annabelle to her hip and secured her there. "She'll outgrow it."
"Right."
An uncomfortable silence settled between them. House couldn't help staring at the little girl clinging to Cameron. Cameron wouldn't hide something like this from him, would she?
"We should get going," Cameron finally spoke. "It was good seeing you, House."
"Yeah… You, too."
Cameron kissed Annabelle's head. "Say goodbye, Bella."
Annabelle finally lifted her head and looked at House again. Then she gave him a little wave.
He returned the wave with uncertainty.
Giving him a sad smile, Cameron turned and walked away, taking Annabelle with her. And for a while, House didn't move from that spot.
She had his eyes.
The End.
A/N: Aww, sadness. Thanks for reading, and please review!
