I wrote this on a whim at around midnight, so it's left unbeta-ed for the moment. I'll probably go back and fix all my errors later, but I felt like sharing this with the world.
-Doubt-
If Akihiko was being completely honest, there were times when he let himself doubt that what he had with Misaki was real. He had to admit that what the two of them had sometimes felt too good to be true. How could he, a reclusive thirty-something who could do nothing but write and play with toys, possibly have snagged someone so young, outgoing, and talented? Sure, maybe Misaki didn't have any out-of-the-ordinary abilities, but he was definitely more useful than Akihiko was.
The two of them were polar opposites. Misaki was young; Akihiko was...well, not getting any younger. Misaki was good with housekeeping; Akihiki so wasn't. Misaki was small and warm, while Akihiko had always been fairly tall and broad, with cold hands. Misaki was cute; if anyone tried to call Akihiko "cute", they likely wouldn't survive the torment they'd recieve for such a ridiculous statement. Akihiko was too manly to be considered cute.
So yes, there were times when it felt as if Misaki would one day up and leave out of sheer boredom with the older man. But then, right as Akihiko was having those thoughts, Misaki would say something like "Oi, Usagi-san, are you alright?" or "Something on your mind, Usagi-san?" and all that doubt would wash away. He'd think back to how he would wake up in the morning to the sight of Misaki in an apron telling him it was time to get up for breakfast; how Misaki would come in every now and again to change Suzuki-san's ribbon without even needing to be asked, just as Akihiko decided that Suzuki-san needed a new color. He'd think of their ride in the ferris wheel-of Misaki saying, "I love you, Usagi-san."
It was little moments like that that made Akihiko's heart race. It was moments like that that he lived for.
And if Misaki asked if Akihiko ever doubted him, he would deny it...because that was another one of those things that gave Akihiko all the assurance he needed.
