Coming back to the SGC after the funeral, Sam changed back into civilian clothing. Taking a look at her watch, she realized she had some time before she had to get on her flight for D.C and she walked to Daniel's office and knocked on the door, smiling when she saw him reading a file with his feet up on the desk.
He looked over, saw her and smiled, quickly standing up. "Hey Sam. Come on in." He said, sitting back down as she leaned against a table, putting her bag on the floor. "Plans for our stand-down?" He asked with a smile, even though he had an idea of where she was going. When Landry had returned from Washington for the funeral of Colonel Pendergast, he had put SG-1 on stand-down for a week.
Sam smiled, looking down at the bag. "I'm off for Washington in two hours, actually. There's a flight leaving from Peterson and I'm on it." She told him. However much she loved the mountain, she couldn't wait to get to Washington and hopefully spend a week there with Jack without any interruptions.
"How is Jack, anyway?" Daniel asked with a sparkle in his eyes. "I'm sure he left you a weeks worth of messages in two days; the Prometheus was your brain child after all. And if he read Captain Marks' report, he knew you were one of the last to make it off."
Sam smiled again. "He's good. It's going to be great to get out to D.C and see him. Apparently, he was having puppies in the Pentagon when he heard the Prometheus was destroyed. He wanted to make it out here for the funeral. Cam's out delivering his letter and the letter General Landry wrote to his wife right now. He wants her to know he died saving his crew."
"How long did you know him?"
"Before work started on the Prometheus. I'd say about six years?" She estimated. "He was an exceptional commander. It seems almost fitting he went down with his ship." She said in a quieter voice.
Daniel paused a moment, then stood up and rummaged around for a bit. "I know one usually proposes a toast with something other than a bottle of water," he said as he passed her one, "but this is a military base after all." He said, opening the cap to the bottle.
Sam did the same. "To the Prometheus. To Colonel Lionel Pendergast and the rest of those who gave their lives so that we all can stand here today." She finished, raising the plastic bottle in the air.
Daniel did the same. "Hear hear." He added as they hit their bottles together and drank.
