Hello, I am Furpaw. I am a gray she-cat who is really furry. I know that sounds a little wacko but that's what they named me. I used to be a catter, a cat who hates everyone. Well, it all started out with my only family member dying. My mother, Lightblaze. When I was 4 moons, in a clan, my mother caught an terrible sickness. It was a mix of everything, the rat poison from Carrionplace, greencough, chill, but it is now called blackcough. Blackcough is a cough which means certain death for a cat. The medicine cat, Smalltoss, couldn't save her, even using every combination of herbs he knew. He tried treating them separately but all that did was make it worse. All the elders said she would never survive. It was sadly true. My mother died just when I was 6 moons old. Right after my apprentice ceremony. I ran from the clans that day, never to return. I knew that I could never live by them again. But before I left, everyone knew I was a catter, just from the way I looked at Smalltoss. I so wanted to kill him that day.
But I didn't, I ran, ran, and ran till I got to Highstones. I glared at highstones angrily. StarClan hates me, otherwise they would never have let my mother die. I eventually collapsed in the small cave that twolegs made in Highstones. I woke up, still angry at StarClan. I extended my claws and scratched the words 'I hate you Starclan' onto the cave wall.
Then I ran till I collapsed once more. But this time it was deadly. I fell down in the middle of a Thunderpath. A monster was coming. I screeched as I couldn't move any further. I curled up into a tight ball until the monster was just about upon me. A male cat ran into he Thunderpath, standing in front of me. "Don't you die too." I whispered hoarsely. I hadn't used my voice for days, not ever since I left the forest and the clans.
The tom growled at me softly "Don't worry, female cat." I blinked my eyes twice. This cat wasn't a clan cat. I shakily stood up, tried to run again and collapsed. The tom growled angrily. "Don't move!" I shrunk up into a little ball again. If only I could summon the strength, no. I would not hitch a ride on a monster. The red monster swerved around us finally. As soon as it left, I stood up and wobbled quickly over to the other side of the Thunderpath. The tom followed me. "Hey, come with me female cat. You'll die here, just as well as in the middle of the road." What is a road? I wondered. Then I knew it was a Thunderpath. I followed the tom slowly. He fell back in with my pace and asked me a question. "Were you trying to commit a single cat death?" I wobbled uncertainly. I wasn't sure I should tell this cat about my life. I did. The tom lowered his sharp gaze from my face. He whispered his name. "My name is Storm. In slight of my storm of life."
I tilted my head. What should my new name be? "My name is Charlotte."
The tom smiled. "That's a pretty name. Charlotte." Storm and Charlotte. My heart lightened. Then I whispered out loud as we headed towards the beautiful sunset.
"Storm and Charlotte. Now that's a good couple."
I now know that love is great. And that hate is a horrible nuisance, too terrible to bear.
