In A Second
Prologue
Sweat beads formed on Troy Bolton's forehead. As he whisked one away, another took it's place. He was awaiting the results of his fiancé and my care. He had only gotten the call of our fatal misfortune roughly an hour before he jumped in his car and sped down the highway to the Albuquerque local hospital. He had been in the hospital's waiting room, the silence killing him. He stared intently at the hallway, waiting for the doctor to walk down and reveal the news on how we were. Unfortunately, there was nothing. Everything was dead silent except for the receptionist clicking away on her keyboard monotonously and the soft whimper of a little girl in her daddy's arms. She had tear streaks that stained her golden cheeks.
Troy couldn't help but think of the worst. He was pessimistic at times. I would know. Suddenly, there was a scuffling of feet echoing off of the hallway. Troy rose as the doctor came in sight.
"Dave Johnson," the doctor said as he beckoned this Dave Johnson over to him. After some hushed words, Dave breathed a sigh of relief and the girl let out a joyful sob. Dave ran down the hallway once the doctor told him the room number of some loved one, little girl in arms.
Troy was now alone in the waiting room.
Maybe that will be me, Troy thought – his first optimistic thought of the day. Maybe, just maybe, everything will be okay!
Another pair of feet could be heard coming down the hallway. This time it was a woman doctor.
"Troy Bolton," she said in a nasally voice. Troy stood up and walked over to her slowly.
"We're very sorry to tell you this, Mr. Bolton, but you're fiancé has passed away."
