Disclaimer – This work is entirely fictional yet it is not. This story came to me as I was out for a morning run. Seems to fit one of the characters of this series.
Unshed Tears
I stepped out into my own world.
It had rained over the night.
The evidence was present in the sky and on the ground.
I started to run.
All I could hear was my breathing and the soft pounding of my steps.
Found a nice dry spot under an overhang.
Stretch, my mind is clear and empty.
I get a drink of water and take off again.
Down the stairs, and the unshed tears start.
The icy stab of a rain drop hits my shirt covered shoulder.
Cold yet it feels good.
Along the road and into the woods.
The rain continues.
The pain of exercise hits me.
I continue along, stopping just a second, before I turn back.
It is hot.
I remove my shirt and stick it into the band of my shorts.
I continue.
I run back a bit faster and harder.
Reaching a rock that sticks out to the river.
I stop and walk on.
I hear the silent roar of the river.
The unshed tears continue to ravish my body.
The rain is cold, yet invigorating.
The small stream near by looks inviting.
Taking some cold water I splash my face.
Time to continue.
I work my way back along the road and to the stairs.
Stopping again to get a small breather.
I run up the stairs.
Fast enough to give pain, but slow enough so I can make it to the top.
I have hit the wall…literally, the wall where I started is where I ended.
Stretching in the dryness.
I slowly work my way back to my room.
The rain, taking away my sorrow, my pain, my warmth.
Yet making me feel more alive than before.
I walk into my room, and relax.
The unshed tears continue to fall.
Author Notes
The inspiration of this story came to me when I was out standing on that rock. After I thought about it, I realized that this story could also represent Toji after the incident with Eva 04 and after he has had his limb replacements.
