A/N: A little oneshot that popped into my head because I've been wanting to see Sakuma get trained as a spy since I saw the first to episodes but have no idea how to actually write that. This just went off on its own really. Anyway, enjoy!

Sakuma closed his eyes, blocking out the room as the other spoke calmly around him, barely acknowledging his presence. He had felt something was going to change, that very first day he came to the agency. He hadn't expected for things to change this much.

He was a soldier, had been taught to lay down his life for the cause; whatever cause that may be was up for debate however. For the sake of Japan, that was certainly it. And it was what these men did too, except they didn't die.

Don't die, don't kill.

That was their motto, and if you thought about it, that was quite a good one as well. Why die if you could remain alive and further serve your goals? Why kill if it'll bring suspicion onto you? The others would no doubt find the answer simple. Don't get caught.

But was it really as easily done as it was said?

Sakuma had a choice to make. But he didn't know if he was ready.

The sounds of the room began to filter out, until silence remained. He didn't know if that was because the others had stopped talking or not, but he didn't care at the moment. A long sigh left him as he continued to reminisce.

He still had a family, friends, people that were important to him. He was someone currently, and these people had abandoned that, perhaps even looked down on him for keeping his identity so close to his chest. Was it really so bad that he didn't want to abandon who he was?

But then again, these people were amazing in their own way. Smart, cunning, ruthless and so very skilled at what they did. And even if they were all alone, and would one day die without anyone knowing who they were or what they did, did that really matter?

Soldiers did in wars on a daily basis and yet very few actually bothered to remember them. But as a soldier, all you did was kill and survive, or die. As a spy, you could do so much more than that; you could be so much more useful to the cause you chose to work for.

It seemed a far more interesting life, at least. One he would have chosen for himself, truly, after having seen what the other side had to offer.

The question was...

'Am I ready?'
