The words ring in her ears.
We're through. We're through. We're through.
Over and over again, the same two word phrase.
We're through.
She's almost outside herself as she's saying it.
She can feel her hands slicing through the air as they had only a few days ago.
Her feet were moving backward, farther and farther away from him.
She blinks hard, trying to erase the memory, pretend like it never happened.
Two years of happiness.
Two years of spending every day with the same person.
Two years of holding hands,
Make-out sessions,
And finally slowly showing her vulnerability to someone other than Cat.
Destroyed by two simple words.
"We're through," she whispers to herself, just to feel the words on her lips again.
Like vinegar.
She's not one for dramatics, but she knows it's really, truly over this time.
He never lets her alone for this long after one of her we're-breaking-up stints.
He would've called when he saw she wasn't in class for two days.
He would've dropped by with SkyBucks for her.
He would've relentlessly commented on her Slap posts.
But he hasn't, not in almost sixty hours.
They haven't communicated once.
Salted tears drip one by one down her cheeks and onto her knees.
She grips the razor tightly in her hand and blinks harder.
Three little incisions.
That's all she wanted to do.
Three little incisions,
And then she could be through.
But three turns into six,
And six turns into seven.
She doesn't stop until she's carved a 'B' on her left wrist.
She inhales sharply.
The blood is leaving her, deep and red, quickly and almost elegantly.
She doesn't realize she's losing too much blood until she tries to make it stop.
Panic ensues, her pulse quickens, her head pounds.
Towels, water, nothing seems to work.
And now she's lightheaded.
She sits back down and dials a memorized number into her phone.
"I'm so sorry," she whispers.
And then, inaudibly, "I went too far this time."
Before she blacks out, she hears six words on the other side of the phone line from an all-too-familiar voice.
"I'll always love you, Jade West."
