"What is Christmas?"

Turning from the sink Sarah Jane looked at her son, sitting by the small kitchen table with his usual thoughtful look on his face.

"Christmas is…" Sarah Jane began, "Christmas is a wonderful time. It's about spending time with your family, and you get presents. And nice food."

"And everybody sets candles up everywhere." Luke's eyes were shining. "Clyde also told me something weird; he says that people take trees into their houses. Why?"

Why? Sarah Jane had never really thought about it. To her it was just natural, something she'd grown up with, but Luke hadn't 'grown up'. Mostly she didn't think about how unusual her son was, but when she did it hit her hard.

"I… don't really know." she confessed.

"That's okay." Luke stood up and began to set the table. "So, are we having one?"

"A what?"

"A tree of course."

"Sure. Actually I was thinking; why don't we go and buy one tomorrow?"

"Yeah. So what's for dinner?"

Sarah Jane couldn't help laughing at the loud rumble coming from Luke's belly. Artificially created and technically not even a year old or not; he defiantly had an appetite like every other 14-year-old boy.
