Enough to Follow

Disclaimer: I wish, but no, I don't own the characters/show.

When Druitt leaves, he follows.

He follows her to get Kate and the Big Guy out of the elevator. Follows as she checks on Musa and the other empaths, watches as she uses her superior control to calm them, never slipping, never giving in.

He follows her to clean up the chemicals their most recent near-disaster has left, to check on Henry's progress in getting the all computer systems up and running again.

She hasn't said a word to him since he started, doesn't need to, she knows he won't leave if she asks, so he follows.

He follows her through to the very end of the day, until it's only them in her office and she finally turns to him, tears she refuses to shed in her eyes.

"Thank you, Will."

He wants to touch her, to reassure her he's not going anywhere, but he can't make that promise, they both know that.

"Don't mention it."

So he settles for a small smile and a few words, and then, typical Magnus, she continues to surprise him.

Her arms wrap around him like they did for the first time during that Big Bertha incident, but this time he wastes no time in hugging her back, giving her a place for her grief, her anger, her fear, her tears, as she had for him so many years ago.

And it's enough to hold her, to show her she's not alone, to say without words that he'd follow her for as long as he is able, for the pain in his chest that he feels for her to lessen.

Her hold tightens, and maybe, just maybe, it's enough for her too.
