Smile
—
Kon was perfect.
But Tim's not.
So he should know that nothing is ever truly perfect.
But he let himself believe Kon was. That Kon was and that their relationship was.
He knows better. He knew better.
It won't happen again.
Because Tim's tired of being perfect, tired of being everything but Tim.
So he won't.
Because he has enough scars: from his parents, from Steph, from Bruce, from Kon, from everyone.
He's not going to do it anymore.
—
Kon is quiet, standing there guiltily beside Cassie as Tim packs his belongings. The look in his eyes screams that he's sorry but Tim knows he's not sorry enough. Especially since Cassie's here again, after Tim caught them in person the first time. They didn't know Tim was leaving, he'd promised Kon they'd try to work it out.
Well, they won't be because Tim is leaving. They both know that now. It's too late. It's been too late for months.
But that's okay because Tim's done with everything. He's always been fine by himself, so he's going back to that. No more father, no more mother, no more Bruce, no more Titans, no more Kon. No more perfect. Just Tim.
Somewhere in Europe there's a city that needs a new hero.
Or maybe Cass would like to share Hong Kong for a while: Black Bat and Red Robin, sister and brother. He likes the sound of that.
Cass is probably the only one who's ever truly seen Tim as he is and not perfect. He likes to think that Shiva did too.
Because that would be two people to see him.
—
Cassie leaves in the middle of Tim packing up the kitchen (the last thing to pack) because Tim refuses to speak to them and Kon refuses to look at her.
She's angry but so is Tim, because he trusted them.
It's their mistake because he's done now.
He's angry and heartbroken and done.
They're not worth it.
—
He gets in the his car and he sits for a minute, finally letting himself feel the searing pain Kon's betrayal is causing.
He didn't know his heart was so whole it could break this bad.
But he can move on. He will move one. Because he always has.
The scars may be inconvenient but they're healed. He can work around them and make it so they hurt less. Make it so that they don't bother him anymore.
He can. It'll just take some time.
—
Tim starts the car and shifts into drive.
He looks back at Kon disappearing in the rear-view mirror -
I love you Tim, please don't go.
- and smiles.
