Elphaba stood on the edge of a cliff at the border of Oz. A strong breeze blew her hair wildly around her face. Elphaba stood still and listened. She could hear trees as they swayed back and forth and a faint sound of cheering. She knew what that was. Although miles away, she could still hear the Ozians celebrating her death. She snickered, if only they knew. She frowned, her thoughts turning to her only friend she had left behind.

"It's time to go."

"We can never come back to Oz, can we?"

"No."

"I only wish…"

"What?"

"Glinda could know that we're alive."

"She can't know, not if we want to be safe… No one can ever know." Fiyero had said. Elphaba had teared up, knowing it was true. Glinda couldn't know that they were alive. It would put all of their lives in danger.

"Come…"

Elphaba had gone. She left, looking briefly over her shoulder at the life she was about to leave behind her. This was for the better…wasn't it? She'd still be living in fear…fear that someone would discover them and learn that she had staged her death…and Glinda was going to have to rule Oz all alone…Elphaba had faith that her friend would make it a better place, but she wouldn't get to witness that.

Everything had gone wrong in her life. Elphaba thought back to when she was an innocent, naïve college student. All she had ever wanted was to meet and work for the Wizard… that is until she discovered he was a fraud. She had given up that dream quickly…Glinda had said she was being rash, but Elphaba's heart told her she was doing the right thing. She wanted to help Animal's and the Wizard wanted to get rid of their race. There was no way she would have ever been able to work with that…monster…

Her thoughts recalled her first day of Shiz. Everyone had instantly hated her. After being assigned to her room, she had not been happy, she had lost control of her magic. Madame Morrible realized that she had the potential to be great and had told her if she 'made good' she might get a chance to meet the Wizard. She had used her, but Elphaba hadn't known that. She was ecstatic that her dreams might come true. She had walked across the campus thinking about how great of a team they'd make, the wizard and her.

When people see me they will scream. She had thought, excited for her bright future. When I meet him I'll be so happy I might melt… Elphaba laughed at the irony there was in that now.

But I swear someday there'll be…A celebration throughout Oz that's all to do with me!

Everything had come full circle. She had gotten everything she had wanted. That was the story of her life, everything she wanted was always twisted and thrown back at her in a cruel way. She had been a selfless person, always trying to do the right thing… so why was fate against her?

She took one last look around. It was dusk and the cheers still rang across the land. She could see the faint glimmer of green from the distant city lights. She turned her back to Oz and stepped of the cliff and into a new land, full of mystery and hopefully a promising new start.
