Chapter One
The Orders
General Roy Mustang read his orders, and then he read them again.
This had to be some elaborate practical joke. He finished his coffee and checked to make sure he'd read this right the first two times, then double-checked his triple-check.
No, down there, handwritten at the bottom: "NOT A JOKE". And right beneath it, in a different pen: "REALLY". Beneath that, "I PROMISE".
He went to get another cup of coffee, and found Riza Hawkeye already there. She silently handed him a cup of coffee, and they stared at each other.
"He can't do that," said Roy.
"He can't..."
There was a knock at the door, and Jean Havoc walked in, a cigarette in hand.
"Just came to congratulate you on your engagement," he said, lighting the cigarette, "That and take Fuery's money."
"I heard that!" Fuery called from the other room.
"We're not engaged," said Riza.
"That's not what the Fuhrer said..."
"Well, we're not," Roy said.
"Oh, come on, we all know what's going on between you two," said Edward Elric, leaning in the doorway, his brother waving behind him.
"Did he tell all of Ametris?" asked Roy in exasperation.
"Probably," said Al.
"Before us," said Riza.
"Probably got lost in the General's paperwork," said Havoc.
"It's not that bad..." "Hawkeye'd shoot him if it was," Ed smirked at Havoc.
"Well, you've all made this trip for nothing," Roy said, crossing his arms.
"No, you're getting married."
"Grumman sent us to make sure of that."
"You can't." "Oh yes we can."
