a/n: Batman and co (c) DC comics
When Barbara Gordon joined the "bat-family", she was fourteen, a freshman in high school with the future ahead of her. So imagine her chagrin when she discovered she was going to have to spend many a night with the eleven-year-old boy wonder. Half the time he wouldn't even talk to her.
"Girls have cooties," he would exclaim.
She would cock her eyebrow, "Aren't you a little old to believe in cooties?"
He would then leave her alone. It's not like that was particularly a bad thing. She was far to mature for him anyway.
As the years went on she noticed him changing. By the time he reached his freshman year of high school, he was almost a head taller than her and he had filled out nicely. She couldn't help but notice how his hair was always perfectly windswept and his eyes always held a glint of mischief. She would never admit it, but he was beautiful. But he was her best friend, and three years younger, it would never work.
So when he left to form the Teen Titans, he was sorely missed. It wasn't long until Jason Todd came along, but he wasn't the same. Missions were silent and, quite frankly, boring. When Jason died, it was just her and Bruce for a while. That was even worse.
She was glad when Tim Drake came along because the missions were more like they used to be. The rapport was different, but that was expect with Tim being so much younger than her. She was now twenty. He was thirteen.
She still missed Dick though. She missed his eyes and his hair and his voice. He was at home with his new team. He didn't need Batman-let alone her-anymore. That was what really hurt her.
One Friday night, after classes were done, she decided she would pay him a visit. It didn't matter that he was halfway across the county; that was no problem for her. She was just worried he wouldn't be welcoming. He had a girlfriend now. The last the he wanted was a blast from the past to show up, maybe.
When she arrived at the front door of Titans Tower, she could feel the butterflies in her stomach. She heard the doors hiss open. The young super-heroine looked down at her feet.
"Babs?"
Oh god, this was a bad idea.
As she considered turning around and leaving, she felt a pair of arms encircle her. He laughed.
"I've missed you!"
She was lead through the doors and was greeted by four teenage faces.
"Guys, look who's here!"
Maybe, it wasn't such a bad idea after all.
