Authors note(s): This is a really short story for the mission: A Shadow Over Hackdirt. I couldn't think of a Khajit name.

Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters mentioned in this story or any others.

"You're..." One female voice began, but hesitated as she searched for the right wording. She began again: "You're here to rescue me, aren't you?" The Argonian looked at the failed hero

"Yeah," The female Khajit replied, sadly. "By your mom," She watched the Argonian glance at the dirt floor. "I'm sorry, Dar-Ma."

"No it's not your fault," the young Argonian's voice was distant. She was thinking of her mom and the store. The two of them don't deserve this, the Khajit thought, solemnly as she remembered the friendly Argonian whom had greeted her and told her that "Mother would be glad to meet her as well." And it's all my fault that this has happened. If I hadn't have been spotted, we'd be at Chorrol by now. She sighed and looked up as a group of people entered the cavern.

"No one will mess with us after this," A man's voice could be heard, Natch Pinder's, mumbles of agreement followed. She knew it was him because he had followed her around town- even into the Inn and into the shop. She moved so she was in front of Dar-Ma and growled at the approaching group. They laughed at the feeble attempt to scare them. "You are in no position to threaten us, house cat." Natch Pinder stated. "If I were you I'd be begging for my life," He paused, grinning a bit, "but thankfully I'm not you, and it's not like the Brethren would accept it anyways."

"Now stop it or we'll sacrifice you tonight as well," the Khajit did not, "Fine," A man unlocked the door; he looked like the inn keeper and probably was. She bolted through the door, attacked, and managed to kill three of the underground dwellers who had been with the group, before getting knocked out.

When she awoke she was alone in the cage. Soon however, her cellmate's screams echoed through the cavern. She had failed, mother and daughter would not be reunited; not in this life anyways. A week later, her own screams echoed through the cave.
