Nayru did not giggle.
On this topic, Zelda was firm.
"Really, Link, I don't know how you come up with these ideas," the princess sighed after Link brought up the subject again. "She is the patron of law, of the fine arts, and the honorable pursuits of the mind. She is beauty and grace defined. She does not titter like a milkmaid."
Link accused her of saying that the goddesses don't laugh.
"No, I'm not; Farore's sense of humor is well-known. After all, she prefers to interact with our world through a talking tree and a bratty boy in a funny hat."
Link rolled his eyes at Zelda's own idea of humor.
"In addition, her races are mostly children, who find amusement in everything. Farore would giggle. And Din, Blessed Be, doesn't take anything seriously. I'm loathe to say it, but she probably gets more enjoyment out of you failing the tests. But I know she would rather throw herself on her own scimitar than be suspected of 'giggling.'"
He insisted it wasn't Din, or Farore. It was Nayru.
"I don't doubt that you've heard things on your journeys, Link, but I believe you are putting too much thought into it." And Zelda considered the conversation closed for the day.
Link didn't hold Zelda's opinions against her. The goddesses never spoke to him directly, as they were wont to do with her in her dreams. It had taken him a long time to understand their choice of communication to him.
He felt Din at his most powerful, when his sword ignited and his enemies were reduced to smoke and ash.
He saw Farore when his courage was rewarded with a boost of stamina and a surge of strength.
And after every secret he discovered, every puzzle he solved, every move that required him to use his wits instead of his guts, his pointed ears would ring with a tinkling chime that sounded too much like delighted laughter for him not to think that Nayru giggled.
And on this topic, Link was firm.
Hello, it is I, the author, coming to you live from the footnotes!
I hope you enjoyed this silly little ditty that took me 15 minutes to madly scribble and over a week to rewrite.
I can't help but think about all the details that go into games, the small things you take for granted and pass by. The writings on the walls, the background noises, the reoccurring events. The Zelda series is fraught with them and I will not let them go unappreciated!
I hope everyone recognized the Trio's ways of interacting with Link!
(Please do not read too much into the horrible title; it's just the part of my brain that thinks the English language is hilarious sometimes.)
EDIT Nov. 22, 2012. Fixed some wording that was bugging me. I can never be completely satisfied with my writing. Bleh...
