Kel was lying on the grass, head on Neal's chest, relaxing in the sunshine… they were knights now, and they had considerably more free time than in page/squirehood. Enough free time that they could relax…

I won't feel this fright.

Neal was one of the realm's best healer-knights and he put his talents to good work… Cleon was King's Champion now… Jon had abdicated the throne to Roald, who was still unwed as of yet… and then there was Kel. She was the best Tortallan citizen with a glaive, ever since her knight-master Raoul of Goldenlake had trained her with it… she was quite good at Shang still… and then soon she'd have to choose a body squire, but that was all right… and Neal and Kel were a "couple" except the said two WOULDN'T call it that… they had only formed recently, around three months ago… or maybe more, Kel couldn't remember…

The thunder sounds

The lightning clashes

Neal wrapped his strong arm around the bottom of Kel's ribcage… he could feel it… Kel had been taken prisoner and starved shortly after her knighthood began – only a week or so, maybe less – and she still hadn't gained back all her weight, it wasn't positive that she ever would or could… Neal had been scared when he saw her like that first, bones visible from lack of food for almost a month…

It's been hard

Times haven't passed

Neal shifted and pulled Kel up next to him.

Kel nodded.
