CHAPTER 1 - Part 1/5
POKéDEX:
Charmander - From the time it is born, a flame burns at the tip of its tail. Its life would end if the flame were to go out.
"Alright, Anna. Do it."
"What? Why me?"
"This was your idea, you should be the one to do it."
"But I'm bad at throwing. What if I miss?"
"Then... sweeten it a little. Reel it in, then capture it."
"I didn't bring any berries with me."
"THEN - then just... be yourself. Approach it. Try to play nice with it or something."
"I can't just do that with a wild Skitty, it doesn't work that way."
"Then what were you planning if you didn't bring any berries with you?!"
"I don't know! I didn't think it would take this long!"
...Whispering. Loud whispering actually. I'm surprised the Pokémon hasn't heard us by now. I mean, we aren't that far from it, hiding just behind some bushes from some tall grass ahead of us that the Pokémon's in. I say Pokémon though instead of Skitty because I don't think that's what we're hiding from. My friend here thinks that she saw a Skitty Pokémon. Small, pink, cute little things with weird looking tails. Although knowing this place, there aren't any Skitties that even roam here, not even close.
"Why don't you throw it?"
"Because."
"...Because what?"
"Because I'd probably end up missing as well!"
I wonder how dumb we look right now. Three kids crouched down, hiding behind some bushes from a Pokémon that may or may not still be there.
You got Edgar, the goofball boy of the bunch, hiding impatiently with us. Anna, the kind hearted type of girl who thinks she's seeing rare Pokémon at the moment, who she then plans to give to another friend of mine as a welcome back gift. And then you got me, the ring leader girl of the group. I actually probably look like the weirdest one here with my pink hair, shady hat, and boots on.
Who wears boots on a sunny day like this anyway?
Well, even though I usually am the one with the plans when I'm with my friends, not today. No, this was my friend's idea, Anna. She dragged us into this in trying to help her catch this "Skitty" Pokémon.
"Mary!"
Speak of the devil, look who's calling for me. I look up from the ground to see my friend, Anna, in front of me, crouched down as well behind the bushes. She's holding a full size Poké Ball in front of me, while giving me a crooked smile.
"Do you think you can throw the Poké Ball?" She says. "Edgar and I aren't that good at throwing, especially when it comes to small Pokémon."
"I'm not that good at throwing either, you know." I warn her.
"Yeah, but you kind of do these things for a living. You can probably throw a lot better than Edgar and I combined."
I give out a sigh, then put out my hand from my crossed arms. She gives me a small smile then drops the Poké Ball into my hand, and I get up from the ground a little to get a good view over the bushes.
"Anna, I doubt that you saw a Skitty. What would it be doing here anyway?" I ask her as I look around towards the tall grass.
"I don't know, maybe it was... chasing something. Then it got lost here."
I continue to look at the tall grass for a moment when suddenly I see it rustle a little bit. Found it. I stand up all the way, ready the Poké Ball in my hand, then throw it at the grass. I watch as the Poké Ball dives through it, makes a ding sound, now knowing that it hit the Pokémon, then watch as the Poké Ball bounces back out of the tall grass, opening wide and releasing a red laser at the hidden Pokémon to capture it. It sucks in a red blob of the laser from the bushes, then shuts tight as it lands back onto the ground just outside of the grass.
"Wow. Nice shot, Mary." Edgar says from the other side of Anna, looking over the bushes.
The two both stand up and we all walk around the bushes we were hiding behind to get near the Poké Ball.
"I told you I saw a Skitty." Anna says as she walks towards the Poké Ball by herself with us standing behind. "But nooo, you guys didn't believe me."
"Wait."
I stop her before she even reached down to pick up the Poké Ball. She looks at me for a second, then looks back down at the Poké Ball. It shook. Anna takes a few steps back from the Poké Ball as we watch it shake a few more times.
"I... don't think we caught it yet." Edgar says besides me.
We watch it shake more and more on the ground as the Pokémon inside tries to make an attempt to escape. Then suddenly, it busts open, shooting a red laser out from inside it to the middle of the open space between the tall grass and the bushes. We watch as the laser forms a humanoid looking Pokémon with clawed feet, large shoulder pads, a big tail, and a cat looking head, laying down on its back right in front of us. An Abra.
"Dah! Wh-?" Anna says, confused and shocked.
The Abra Pokémon looks up from the ground towards us, stares at us for a second, then flashes and teleports away.
"It-" Anna stutters. "An Abra?!"
Edgar chuckles a bit. "You caught an Abra, not a Skitty!"
"But I thought - I... I could have sworn I saw a Skitty though."
I try to keep myself from smiling to big. "Anna, I've lived in Cerulean for four years. I told you there weren't any Skitties here." I tell her.
She looks up at me, gloomily. "I've... lived in Cerulean longer than you."
"Oh." I stopped smiling. "Well... well then you should know just as much as I do that Skitties don't live near here."
"Hmm..." She whimpered, looking back down at the empty Poké Ball, then starts to walk towards it to pick it up.
"Well," Edgar says, "since we're no longer going to be hunting for Pokémon anymore, how 'bout we head over back to town to get something to eat while we wait for James to come back, eh?" He looks at Anna with a smile, then at me.
"Hmm, alright." Anna responses, standing back up. "It's not like we have anything else better to do."
"Hey, don't feel bad, Anna. I'm sure we can find some Pokémon for Micaiah when she gets back." I tell her, trying to lift her spirit a little.
"Yeah, I... guess... ...um." She stops talking and looks at me for a second. "Wait..." She says, still watching me. "Weren't you wearing a hat a little while ago?"
"Huh?"
