Author's notes: What if, when Taichi was very young, Hikari caught a cold and died from it? And what if... he knew he couldn't live without her....
"Always and Forever"
The mirror. Smooth and shining, it reflected what was and what wasn't. It reflected life and death. It reflected sorrow.
Taichi stared into it, and on the other side of the mirror, his sister stared back. He could almost hear her voice... he could almost hear it.... almost hear it... almost... almost...
A tear slid down his cheek. "I'm sorry, Hikari," he whispered. "I didn't mean to kill you."
He remembered the funeral. But he didn't remember what went on. He didn't remember his mother crying, and his didn't remember the people who had come to pay their respects. All he remembered was what he had felt when they had lowered Hikari's body into the ground...
That feeling was emptiness.
Lonliness.
She was gone. She was dead.
He remembered how he had caused her to catch her death of sickness.. the poor girl had never been in good health... but she had seemed all right! How could he have known that a soccer game outside could kill her?
He wished it hadn't.
He wished it had never happened.
But it had, and she was gone.
Forever.
And yet... it was not forever. For there she was, on the other side of the mirror. And, she was on his side of the mirror as well.
Taichi stared down at his clothes.... her clothes.... the dress that their grandmother had given her. It had been too big for his younger sister, but fit him perfectly....
He stared at his hair. He had cut it, for at the time of her death it had been shorter than his own....
He stared into the mirror. Everything about him was now perfect, down to the flower clips Hikari had liked to wear in her hair. He was no longer Taichi. He was Hikari.
He knew his mother would worry about this... but it didn't matter. He needed his sister to be with him... and she would be. Always.
"Always..." he whispered, in his softest voice. "...We'll always be together. I'll live for you."
End notes: This took five minutes to write. And I wasn't able to spell check it... sorry, minna. And if the format is messed, it's because I had to upload it oddly. And I was starved for ideas... Whoopee. a note to any FY fans who are reading this: PLEASE don't kill me for making Taichi act like Nuriko! *sweatdrop* As I said, I was starved for ideas!
