Kobe, Japan
Here I am again...
The boys eyes scanned the smoldering land in front of him, deviod of empathy. After all, he had seen this picture too many times to count.
Flashes of similar buildings, different in design but alike in the burnt signs aligning the entrance to them.
A home and a family had been his only true want for as long as he could remember, which, truthfully has not been that much time with him being at the age of 7. Those seven years of life could be considered anything but living although.
Fire after fire, this torment had followed him like a plague. With no true end these happenings continued, from orphanage to orphanage. The places themselves filled with children and caretakers that did nothing but abuse and alienate the Boy.
Although, having spent so much time with no one, even pain was a welcome feeling to the Boy. Anything was better than the emptiness of solitude, the time in between him being tossed from orphanage to orphanage. Throughout those times in solitude the raging inferno that once took place in the boys eyes began to dull.
Now, those very eyes looked more akin to amber in its unpolished gem form: dull, unreflective, and unfeeling. These eyes remained on the familiar scene, patiently waiting for the police to come like they did every time. Then they would take him to another "Safe Place", and the cycle would resume.
Step
Step
Step
A man came into the corner of the Boys eyes but he regarded him as a ghost, and kept staring.
Step
Step
The now revealed elderly man, dressed in a long black blazer, a bright gold scarf, and a black dress shirt tucked into his also black formal pants; stood silently next to the boy. They now stood together, staring, though the subjects of their vision were vastly different. While the boy eyes remained trained on the burnt building,
the old mans eyes were solely focused above the shoulder of the Boy.
Almost ethereal eyes, composed completely of flames without color, accompanied with the feeling of the sun being set upon you with full ferocity;
Settled on the old man.
An eternal repetition of every possible death the old man could encounter flashed through his eyes. Yet he stood firm as the Boy did as he gazed at the demon, as if he walked hand in hand with manifestations of fear as the Boy did with fires.
The expression in the eyes changed. A glint of realization being the only reason it was perceivable.
The old man raised an eyebrow, asking a silent question to the Demon.
The eyes never once moved, but a voice rang along the confines of the old mans mind;
As you will
The old man, for the first time since he stood next to the boy; settled his eyes upon him.
"Shinobu; child, is what you will call me if you are in need of anything. Now come, I have much to do with you two."
Idly, the boy wondered to whom else was the old man speaking, but the passing thought was killed as was the reaction he would show the man. The boy turned his eyes towards the retreating form of the man, and slowly began to follow in his footsteps.
The fire had began anew..
