He followed the landlord into the furnished apartment. The last tenant had an accident and her family didn't wish to keep the apartment any longer, at least that's what he was told. The apartment was yellow, spacious, and was relatively cheap; it would be perfect for starting out away from the people that know him. Especially since most of them think that he was odd. Growing up, he had missed Dr. Crowe and the sessions they used to have, but he knew that Malcolm had to move on, just like the rest of them who hurt from staying here too long.
People like the Tammisimos; they all thought he was crazy and probably deserved to be locked up. If his mother hadn't believed him, he didn't think he would have made it through the rest of the school year, much less high school. He was glad to be away from Philadelphia.
"So, what do you think?" the landlord asked shaking him out of his thoughts. He looked behind the landlord and saw a young man looking at him judgmentally. He must've been really distracted if he hadn't noticed the young man in the apartment.
"Yeah, I'll take it. It's perfect."
"I'll just get the paperwork set up." The landlord left the apartment leaving him along with the judgmental young man. The young man continued studying him as if waiting for him to say something.
"I would really appreciate it if you would at least say something to me while you're staring at me. Maybe for starters, your name?" The young man looked shocked at him.
"You can see me?"
"Yes, it's kind of hard for me not to notice you."
"But nobody can see me! Not even she did, but she tried to communicate with me after helping me get rid of my mom." The young man shook his head sadly as he sat down on the couch.
"Who? The last tenant?"
"What are you? Are you a demon? I head her talk about them before her accident. I've only had a few experiences with them, only when she was living her though."
"Demon? I didn't think they were real. Anyways, I'm as real as that landlord is. So why don't you tell me your name?"
"Dennis. My name is Dennis, but she called me Phantom Dennis." He chuckled ruefully, showing how much he missed the woman that lived here before him.
"Good to meet you, Dennis. My name is Cole Sear. I guess I'm your new roommate." Cole said smiling.
