Note: This is a legend of mana fic. I chose the female and named her Aurora. Deal with it.
Aurora's Pain.
"For my brother Larc!" Sierra yelled as she plunged her twin daggers into Drakonis's body. As I prepared my great sword Hellbane, I watched in shock as Sierra went berserk. She was moving faster than I had thought humanly possible, striking over and over again with the fury of... well... a berserk Dragoon. I had never seen anyone this mad and still remain sane. What happened next will haunt me to the rest of my days. Sierra was not actually looking at Drakonis, she was trapped in that nameless place where only the rage and pain have meaning. Drakonis was rearing back, his mouth opening. He was preparing to breath fire. I knew that there was no way that Sierra could possibly survive the blast. I had to do something. I ran. I knocked Sierra out of the way. She was free, she was safe. I failed to get out of the way. All I remember, even to this day, was the searing pain. Then, mercifully, I blacked out. I am told that after that, Sierra and Smasher managed to defeat him. I knew I built Smasher right. However, all I remember after that were voices.
"Is she alive, master?"
"Barely..."
"Help her, Please!"
"...child..."
After that, I blacked out again.
"Aurora?"
"Where am I?" I was standing in the corral at my home. But it was eerily different.
"This is the land of dreams. It's part of your territory."
These words were uttered by Belle, the witch in charge of the dream realm. I had always liked her ever since that whole Jumi thing. "Territory?" I asked, puzzled.
"Yeppers. What, you thought that the dream realm was some huge, amourphous plain that reshaped itself to your every whim? Nuh-uh, my friend." Belle smiled gently to soften the rebuke. As I thought about it, I realized that there must be some reason I was here. So I asked Belle what it was. Belle replied, "When you got caught in that fire, you were badly hurt. You're here because your mind needed a place to rest."
"A place to rest?"
"Yeah. I've seen a lot in my time, but what happened to you... It's just wrong." Belle replied. "I have never seen anyone that badly hurt."
As I was considering this, I felt a faint tugging. As it gradually grew stronger, I realized I was waking up. As I sped back to the waking world, I shouted a goodbye to Belle.
At first, there was only darkness. I thought at the time that it was midnight. "Sierra? You there?" I was shocked at the sound of my own voice. I had croaked those words out. Ah, goddess, my voice, my voice! I had been so proud of it. It was musical, beautiful. Now it was the voice of someone else. "She's alive!" I heard Sierra say. "Hi, you. Can I have some light here?" Silence then. It was of the kind that occurs when someone has unwittingly asked a question whose answer only affects them in a bad way. When Sierra spoke again, her voice was curiously gentle. "You don't see any lights?"
"Of course not."
"Oh goddess..."
"What? What?"
There was no reply, only silence. Then I realized what had happened.
"Goddess, I'm BLIND?!" Screaming like that was a mistake. My throat started to burn. There is more to the story, but I am incapable of telling you anymore. The pain of losing my sight resides with me still. However, it is also curiously merciful, for now I do not have to look at the ruins of my face. So, please, leave me alone. I have lost everyone but Bud and Lisa. It is too painful for my other friends to look upon my face, even after all this time. And it is almost to painful to talk about. Please, just...go.
