Long December

Long December

It's been a…

Long December, and there's reason to believe

That maybe life goes on despite what's gone for good.

I still remember the last things that they said

And I doubt that I'd forget it if I could.

And it's one more day now without Calvin

And it's one more day that's lacking Hobbes

The morning paper seems so empty

What rhymes with Hobbes?

The smell of yellowed paper

And the best escape from all the myriad of duties that you shirk

All of a sudden, your eyes scroll down the page

To see the way light passes through Watterson's work.

And it's one more day now without Calvin

And it's one night you lie awake

You think life may not be worth living

For living's sake

Drove down the highway some time after two a.m

And though a little while about the past

I guess without them the world seems a little darker

Existence is a little starker now without its brightest marker

It's been a long December, and there's reason to believe

That maybe this year will be better than the last

Memories and relics are now all that remain

From that proud era and the days go by so fast.

And it's one more day now without Calvin

And it's one more day in Hollywood

It's been a while since I read 'Foxtrot'…

I guess I should.
