Lily started sobbing into her hands heartily . She was completely depressed . Her " friend " Martie Reynolds just continued clipping her nails and patting her lipstick . She just said , very casually ,
" Aw , Lily , it ' s true you ' re an absolute failure , but that ' s just because you don ' t have a man in your life . And who cares about mums and dads ? They ' re just constantly bothering us with brushing our teeth and cleaning our rooms , and , frankly , your sister is just a jerk . Why don ' t you just realise that ? What I could do is give you a little makeover , you know , like " she snapped her fingers " that , and then all the boys will be after you and you ' ll be the second most popular girl in school and then you ' ll forget about your stupid folks and voila ! "
Lily only just starting sobbing harder and Martie cursed , having broken a nail with her pocket mirror . Alice stepped into the dorm , first quite joyful , but then she saw Lily and caught up rapidly . She pointed at Martie angrily .
" What have you done again ? "
" Me ? Nothing , I just gave her a little advice on life and she started wailing again because of family problems or that type of whatever nonsense . "
Alice fumed and growled between angry , controlled breathing ,
" Martie Reynolds , you call yourself a friend , but you ' re only just a – "
And then she said a word she would never have said in front of an adult , that made Martie gasp and Lily look up , sniffing .
" Hey , I was just trying to help ! " Said Martie with " innocent " eyes . Alice came up to her and simply slapped her in the face , hard .
