She needs him and they don't understand. It's the way he knows her and loves her even though she treats him like shit. She loves him and they don't know, and sometimes, she wonders if he knows.
"I want coffee."
"What's the magic word?"
"Go get me some coffee."
He stares at her and he's the only one she'll ever listen to.
She gives in, "please."
"Actually, the magic word was lotion, but I'll let it pass because you have a boo-boo eye."
Her heart warms because even after dating him for so long, one glance he shot towards could wear away the ice covering her heart.
"Two sugars -"
He cuts her off, "I know how it's done."
So she leans back in her chair, and each time she thinks it impossible to love him and need him more, she's proven wrong.
-
He thinks he's in love because how can someone kiss him with so much passion and not love him back?
But he's shot down once again and he's used to it so he doesn't really care anymore. Someone sits down next to him and he doesn't need to turn around to know it's her because he's memorized her smell over time.
She asks what's wrong and he begins to complain about girls because that's what he does.
-
Then came a kiss.
It was out of the blue, spontaneous and intense, and he guesses that it suits her personality perfectly. True blue, beautiful blue, heart breaking blue, I love you. It's an instantaneous reaction, a buzzing of nerves and a catching of breath before she took it; she stole it from him like she stole his heart. She tastes like candy. Sweet, sweet, strawberry red candy.
He savors the kiss because he doubts he'll have another one ever again. She pulls away and just like that, it's over. It was an upward soar of his heart and a dizziness in his head, and a moment where he forgot how to breathe.
"See, nothing." She says and starts eating again and he jokes, "I want you to meet my parents." She starts in her seat and almost chokes on the food in her mouth and he begins to wish that he hadn't come to school today.
They continue to talk and everything is back to normal but it really isn't because they aren't normal people and the kiss sits there heavy.
He thinks that everything around them has been silenced by a thick coat of sugar, a sweet, lingering silence.
He looks at her sideways and smiles.
"You know, you're not a bad kisser…"
"What's that supposed to mean?!"
